Insurance update

We asked before about insurance being needed on our paid for TT. Decided it is in our best interest.

After getting quotes from $300 to $450 for just the TT.

I finally got smart and called our truck insurer, AARP Hartford. Found out and almost fell out of the chair that for an additional $36 we now have the same coverage as those above quotes.

We have all our vehicles insured thru State Farm and found it to have a much better price for same coverage as any of the RV specialists. I imagine quantity of vehicles insured does make a difference.

Yea, we just insured ours when the policy expired in April and it went up $15 a month to add full coverage to it through Travelers Insurance auto policy.

I always thought that anything pulled was covered (liability only) by the pickup insurance and while it's parked, it's covered by the house insurance, but I was told otherwise by my insurance agent.

I think the

If you add the RV to your existing policy(s) it's usually cheaper. In most cases the RV is covered (up to the limits of the policy) by the auto policy while hooked to the TV and your Home owners policy (If you park it at home) while it's parked. Usually all that's required is a rider to increase the coverage in those two situations and an addition to cover it while it's doing what it really love's to do (BE CAMPING)

All insurers are a little different so whatever you do be sure you're comparing apples to apples when searching for insurance on your RV.

P.S. Motorized rigs are a completely different animal to your insurance company.

I would just caution you to make sure that the policy is either specific to RV's or that your auto policy is then amended to include a specific RV endorsement. Automobile policies are not normally designed to contend with the issues faced by RV'ers and if it ain't specifically addressed in the policy, you won't have coverage for it!!

I would caution that this is not always the case when it comes to motorhomes. When we had our insurance broker remove our old motorhome from our auto policy (Hartford) and add the new Georgetown our bill just for the RV went from around $1000/year to over $4000!!!! Imagine my shock when I saw the first bill! Luckily my broker discovered the discrepancy and did a little research on my behalf (we were on vacation when all this happened) He ended up setting us up with Foremost Insurance which specializes in RV insurance, the bill for them was around $1200/year for the new rig, not much more than for our 15 year old Fleetwood.

This also brings up a different point about insurance is that I would never again deal directly or through a single agent for a single insurance company. Our broker periodically checks rates and coverage to make sure I am getting the best deal I can and in the case of the RV he saved us a boatload of money while I was away on vacation and was unaware of what was happening.

The insurance on our TT with Geico for comprehensive with a deductible of$250 is $33.00 and collision with a $1,000 deductible is $40.00, this is every 6 months everything else is covered while it is on the tow vehicle.

Yes, you are correct. The Declaration page of your policy must have a unit Endorsment identifying the RV and it has a code number. As an examble my TT is listed as (VEH 4) with an ID # UE207. This info should be on the 1st page of your policy.

We have National Travelers. It is costing me $421 per year. It covers my TT while at the storage lot. It also covers awning damage any time ( Sorry rockwood06 ). I also get a full TT replacement for the 1st 5 yrs at current time cost. After 5 yrs, the replacement cost is the original purchase price.

Geico will cover the damages, but the more I think about the damage I think I can repair it myself. As far as the skylite go's it is all one piece and the whole thing has to be replaced unless I can come up with an Idea and I am thinking long and hard....
