Interesting. Ford Pickups with VW engines.

Found it interesting that Ford Power Stroke diesel engines are really Navistar engines (Formerly International Harvester) which in 2020 was purchased by a holding company named Traton which is owned by Volkswagen.

Some truck owners brag about their engines being Cummins but I don't see any Ford owners bragging about their Volkswagen engines. LOL

Funny how mixed the world of commerce has become.

Since 2011 Ford has designed and produced its own Diesel engines.

If the last Ford’s to have Navistar engines were produced in 2010, and VW didn’t purchase Navistar until 2020, then there are no Ford trucks with VW engines.

(Psst. This was offered as humor as well as pointing out how companies are eaten up by big foreign companies)

I'll bet earlier Ford owners rarely, if ever, bragged about their "Corn Binder engines".

Ever look under the hood of an 80's Jeep Cherokee? 4 cyl engine from GM, brake booster and master cyl from Chrysler, Ford AC components.... used to hate to see them come into the shop. The only positive was that once we figured out what we were looking at, they were super easy to find parts for!

Good old AMC. Imsgine my surprise when working on an early 60's Rambler and finding the rear axle bearings had two different P/N's and designs. Why? Who knows. Maybe the engineer designing the Left Side didn't like or talk to the one designing the Right Side.

They were truly "American Motors", using parts from all the other American manufacturers.

Good news is that they didn't use Lucas electrical parts. If they did the cars wouldn't run as long as they did. (Old English car owners will get the reference LOL)

I had a 10 year old MGB as a daily driver back in the mid-80s. I carried a small can of WD-40 in my center console, and could jump out, open the hood, pop the distributor cap, spray the inside, and put it all back together - at a stop light. I was like an Indy pit crew when that thing started to miss when driving in the rain!

There was an old joke among my MG friends: "Do you know why the British drink warm beer? Because Lucas makes refrigerators!"

Sounds similar to International Harvester and their Travall. Parts from all the major car manufacturers. I had the replace the rear end. Went to the local junk yard and got one. Whoops! The original was from Chrysler and the one from the junk yard was from Ford. It mounted fine and all lined up, but a different lug nut pattern for the wheels. I had the get different rims. I ended up with two spare tires. One for the front and one for the rear. Crazy.

A lot goes on behind the scenes. Since 2002 GM and Ford have entered into joint ventures for the 6 speed automatic transmission (6T & 6F Series), then again in 2017 for the 10 speed automatic (10L & 10R Series).

GM has had a long standing relationship with Isuzu. I owned a 1981 Chevette that had a 1.8L Isuzu diesel engine. 51 HP, 50 MPG. Noisy, but dependable. The Chevrolet LUV pick-up was built by Isuzu.

1969 I bought a new F100 Ford pickup. Found out 4 years later the power steering pump and reservoir were GM. Then had to replace a rear axle bearing and discovered that the truck had a Dodge differential

Yes, earlier diesel engines were built by Navistar...up to the 6.0 liter engines. The engines (6.4 and 6.7) after that were built by Ford. I have a 6.7L diesel and it's built by Ford...good or bad. So far it's served me well.

Pardon my error...The 6.4 L diesel engines were still made by Navistar. Both the 6.0 and 6,4 engines had some inherent problems. Ford designed the 6.7 L in-house and is built by Ford.

The 6.0 and 6.4 were joint efforts.

Most of the issues surrounding the 6.0 (especially in later model years) were around the oil and EGR coolers. Those have been solved completely by the aftermarket or through Ford.

The 6.4 had more involvement from Ford and is a mess no matter how you slice it. All of the issues inherent with the 6.0, and some new ones thrown in. I have a friend that had to put over $12k in his.
