Ability to connect to the internet will vary from place to place and all across the country.
Since I often camp in places with no phone service at all, which means that "hotspots" won't work either, I just keep a good supply of DVD's and books for my evening entertainment.
The rest, e-mail, texts, I can catch up on when I get back to civilization.
Speaking only for myself, I don't really miss internet while camping but I do realize that many need it for work. However I rarely encounter people working via internet when truly out in the boondocks.
