This is how I use my CB. It has proven invaluable when the road has been closed by an accident and forced a reroute in bad weather.

The truckers who frequent the road know all the safe back ways and I just tag along.

Admittedly, many have moved off channel 19 and use GMRS (licensed power), CB split channels (special rig), or 2 meter Ham Radio (also licensed).
