Is there a need for RV extension cord?
How many of you have needed an RV extension cord other than at home? Just curious. Is it worth the extra cost? Since May, when we bought our TT, we have traveled over 2,200 miles and spent 23 nights camping. The pedestal has been close enough in all the CGs we've stayed in so far.

Used one a couple of times. Is it really needed? Maybe not. Twice the CG offered to lend me one. I have also used my 50A extension one time. That was in a city owned CG and I doubt they had a loaner.

Hi,
I use mine, on average, about once every 2-3 years.
But when I need it, I need it...
FWIW.

if you need it even only one time, its enough to carry it with us. I have even needed 3 cords once, and was able to borrow that one. but we carry an extension at all times as well as 15 to 30 adapter and 50 to 30 adapter. its just part of our standard loadout that is always with us.

In our campground about 1/3 of the sites need an extension. I would say it's better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it... Aside from that, if you spend 10-20-30-40-50k+ for a camper, what's $50 for a cord?

I bought one a week after I bought the RV. We needed it at the second campground we went to, was glad I had it.

$50 will not buy a 50A cord. Try $250.

I've used one when running the generators. I can get them a little farther away so that we have less noise and exhaust smell. Never needed one at a full hook-up campground.

Unless I misread, and I don't think I did, who said 50a cord? You don't NEED a 50a cord, but you SHOULD have an extension in case the need arises. Just my .02

I have one and have needed it only once. But since I needed before I had it I had to buy it at the camp store and it was not cheap. So you might as well buy one now while you can shop around for it.
What I have needed more often was multiple lengths of sewer hose.

In Michigan state parks, we end up needing ours about 50% of the time.

We don't always need one, but, we have two 25 footers (30 amp) just in case. Like Lee says, some of the state parks just have the pedestals too far away. If you take care of the cables, you only have to buy them once and move them from RV to RV. then they are worth the investment.

If you camp in any state parks in Kentucky you will need one and in a few cases you will need two.

Ontario Provincial Parks are similar. I have a 50' and an additional 25' for a total of 100'. There have been times that I've needed 75'.

My thought on them. If you dont need it, they are useless, take up space, and add weight. If you do need it, you NEED it.
Had one since day one of having a trailer, I can remember 2 times I used it in 5 seasons. But I will continue to carry it, just in case

I would say at least a 30 amp extension, then you can run 1 AC and the rest of the camper. The second CG I stayed in had the pedestal all the way to the back of the space and a huge rock at the back so I couldn't back up and make it with the power cord. My neighbor had a 30 amp extension he let me borrow so I bought an extension when I got home. I've used it twice in the last 2 years.
