It's Furnace Time

We are going to be doing some end of the season camping this next weekend and I'm wondering how long the 30# propane bottles will last running the furnace in our wildcat 5th wheeler with it getting down to 30 at night and 50's during the day. I was thinking of taking an electric heater but I only have a honda 2000 and really don't want it taking up space anyways. Not sure if there's a propane place around there or not.

If its just the weekend, and the bottles are full, you should be okay. Just keep your door/s and windows closed as much as is practical. How did my parents put it? "I'm not paying to heat the whole neighborhood". You mention the Honda generator, so I take it you will be boondocking.

We'll be at the Lynchburg, TN city park cooking at the Jack Daniels World Championship Invitational Barbeque. I've never been there before and they say if you want power you'd better bring it. Apparantly there is some shared 15 amp power but that'll never work if more than one person plugged in.

A full 30lb tank (7 gallons) has appx. 640,500 btu available. 30000 btu furnace will run appx. 21 hrs. per tank.

So that's 42 hrs of burn time. Should be plenty for the weekend.

Lynchburg is a fun little town. Good luck at the BBQ comp. It's only about 1.5 hours from where I live, but I'll be camping elsewhere this coming weekend.

Too bad, it sounds like a blast. They say the population grows from around 400 to 25000 for the event.

Thanks for the math, I'd never thought of figuring it out that way. I think we'll take the electric heater as we'll be using propane for the refrigerator while traveling and the water heater gets used quite a bit as well.
