Jacks and storms

Last night we had a storm come though our area and it got me to thinking about things. If your at a camp site with leveling or stabilizing jacks (which are medal) down and the rig is hit by lightning, those jacks are going to act like a grounding rod aren't they? Then won't that fry your RV? Any of you use rubber pads or something under your jacks for protection? I've seen the rubber pads on the internet.

Built double, screwed-together, 2X10 treated wood blocks. Put a piece of rope in between prior to screwing them together. First thing to come out of back of truck, last thing to go in. Put them under each landing jack.

If your unit is plugged in to the pedestal, it is already grounded.

Correct.

And being grounded helps prevent lightning strikes, not provokes them. Being at the same potential as earth is a good thing. This is why antennas and such are required to be grounded.

If you are actually hit by lightning it isn't going to matter.

Exactly. If you receive a lightening strike better call your insurance agent, your RV is toast.

My house was hit by lightning and it's grounded 6 ways to Sunday.

Burnt electronics up even though they were protected. We had our answering machine sitting on the instruction book for it, the instruction book caught on fire, guess it's a good thing we were home.
