JMO: Black Water

When pulling in to that lovely spot, whether it is in a fancy campground or boondocking, be aware that the folks who were there before you may not handle their grey/black waste disposal appropriately OR they may have had an accident. . .

The sewer hose is a weak point in any waste disposal system. I'm sure that every camper has a tale or two they can tell. But some folks do things that, if they thought about it, surely they wouldn't? Like the guy I saw lay his sewer hose on the picnic table before putting it away or the guy who laid his sewer hose on the grass to hose it out with water. Ugh!

Remember what came through that hose, folks. Do you want your kids or dog playing in that grass? Do you want to sit at that picnic table?

There are going to be many more people camping who have never done so before and have no idea of the appropriate way of "dumping" their waste and will have many more accidents. Take precautions!

Your point is... "You Can't Fix Stupid"
So do what you have to do when you arrive at a new campsite and quit worrying so much.

Please do not put words in my mouth. I am not worried and certainly didn't say anyone was stupid. Ignorance of proper procedures is not necessarily a sign of stupidity.

We tend to assume that somewhere in the past someone has accidentally mishandled or had an accident with grey or black water. So we leave that area of the campground to the sewer hose and not encourage activity in that area.

As for picnic tables, we tend to spray disinfect them when we arrive. There's no telling what kind of critters have been using it for their own dining table. The smell of food attracts them. So before we use it, we put on a plastic tablecloth.

Other sources of contamination are the water spigot and anything on the post.

The statement means some people don't know or care what they do to others.
This is a true fact. Its natural human behavior.
