July 12th cannot get here soon enough....

Some of you may have noticed that I have not been on here for a while (I wasn't in jail I swear). We have not been camping in over a year and a half, due to the downturn in the oilfield (we provide offshore communications on platforms, rigs etc.), the birth of our daughter, the wife having emergency surgery a month after our little girl was born, and me having to be rushed to the ER and have test after test, get poked, prodded, x-rayed, displayed, relayed and everything else. Good news is that I did not have the "c" word in my colon. So with a cut in salary (thank God I still have a job) and all the medical bills we have/had we had to put camping on hold.
We will be going to Lake Chicot State Park in Arkansas for a week for our family vacation! It may not sound like much but for me and the wife it is a much needed getaway to be able to spend time with our girls. The only thing we will have to worry about is what we will do to make memories with and for our girls. If anyone has been to Lake Chicot State Park let me know what you think of the park, either way we will make the best of it that is for sure.

Yes you do need the getaway.
With all that has happened to you and your family the great thing must be the birth of your daughter. I know I would go mad if I didn't do any camping for 1 1/2 years.

Put that all behind you and hope you have a super pleasant time at Lake Chicot State Park..

Not sure where you are in Louisiana but I will be heading your way for a month stay in October. Shreveport, Hessmer, Rayne just to name a few places in Louisiana we plan to stay. After that we are heading to Corpus Christi Texas for the first week in Nov then home for the holidays.

You have fun.

You are right, I have a 13 year old step daughter and at 44 years old our baby girl was born. My wife and step daughter were the best thing to happen to me, now I can add my own daughter to that equation.

We used to go camping 5 - 10 times a year so it is long over due that is for sure. live 15 miles due West of Rayne, I was born there moved to Egan when I was 3. My wife is from Rayne as well.

Thanks for the well wishes and you guys have fun and be safe on the road!

Lake Chicot State Park is one of the nicest State Parks. Top Shelf concrete pads, full hook ups, super duper nice. Fairly cheap too, especially if you are over 62 (which you ain't, and if you are and having kids, SA-LUTE!! LOL).

Now, there is not much to do around there other than fish. That is a natural ox-box lake off of the Mississippi, and it's full of crappie. Tight lipped suckers, they are! But they are there. But you are sort of in middle of nowhere. It does have a swimming pool, laundry, hiking trails, a marina, pavilions, etc.

I wish I was camping there with you.

I think you more than deserve to get away. Also Arkansas has beautiful parks and lakes. The people are friendly and no matter where you go life is better camping. Godspeed and well wishes to many wonderful days ahead to you and your family.

Not over 60 but most of the time I feel that I am. I chose Chicot because of the party barge rentals at the marina and the pool. Not much on fishing, hunting is more my forte. Thanks for the scoop on the park.

Thanks, I am grateful because it could be worse, I know others have been through worse. Counting down the days for sure.
