Just for kicks and giggles

Hello Everyone,
I was just wondering how many of us girls are sharing
the driving of the 5er's ??

I'm thinking I should give it a "Whirl" but fear I am a wee bit too old and a whole lot "chicken"

I would really like to be able to handle the rig as well as my husband in case of emergency as well as give him a break.

Jo

I'm 65 and I insist I know how to pull the 5th wheel. You never know when you'll have an emergency. We have blue jobs and pink jobs. I know most of the blue jobs but I don't think my husband even wants to know what the pink jobs are LOL

You bet girls/women rule! Ever since we bought our first camper, first the pup now the hybrid, other than this last December 10 to come home, I'm the one hooking up, towing, setting up, breaking down, towing home!

Why? Normally I will go down during the week to set up while hubby is at work. That way we get decent spots rather than waiting till after he gets off work. If we did that, well all the best spots are GONE by that time.

As for towing home, normally we will stay an extra night or two after the "weekender's" go home to enjoy the peace and quiet. So again he's at work and I do the hooking up, towing home.

But I have an edge over a lot of women. Back in my mid 20's I drove tractor/trailer for a living for a while. So I know if I can handle a 55 foot trailer I can handle anything else.

This ain't no 5iver, but I am going to brag on the admiral. If y'all want some good comedy while camping, head to the nearest boat ramp on a weekend afternoon! You will see how good some marriages are versus others for sure. (Lol).

My bride can back our boat down nearly any ramp. We are a seamless and almost flawless team between boat captain and Admiral. We can recover our boat perhaps safer and quicker than any couple around.

When we had our 30 footer she could back it in to many campsites without pause.

Right on guys !!
Good to hear from everyone.
I do believe I have to do this but I am scared spit less to say the least.
It has to be the age thing that is stopping me. I was always very sure of driving anything. I drove for years for a living. I just haven't confidence anymore.

I will just damn well have to work on this 'cause I do believe it is important.
I think DH would like it as well.
You guys are great.
Thnx again
Jo

Around here you see many women driving the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks and not uncommon at all to see them hauling tripple axle horse trailers and man don't get in their way they know their stuff. But this is farm country to and those same women are out in the field driving grain trucks during harvest. So for all you ladies out there just DO IT. Women fly fighter jets and the like so no reason at all they cannot be as good as a guy at teaming a trailer around, heck the current Commanding Officer of the Canadian Forces Snowbirds aerial demo team is a very nice lady.

Definitely do it!!!!!!!!! We've been sharing the driving of our 38' 5th wheel for over 14 years. Not only is it good to know in an emergency but it's nice for the "driver" to be able to enjoy the scenery of this big beautiful country of ours. The driver can look but can't really "see".
My suggestion is to start out on an interstate-definitely not LA or or a huge city- and stay in your own lane. Start at a speed you are comfortable with--there is nothing wrong with 55!! The 2 lane interstate will allow people who want to go around you, plenty of room to do so. The interstates usually have nice big shoulder so if you drift a bit in the beginning you have plenty of room.

Good luck and keep us posted. Hugs, Di

I met a guy in Vero Beach a few years back towing a beautiful Yellowfin 36 center console with triple Yammaha 250s on the stern. I asked about towing such a big boat...his response has always stuck with me...towing a big boat (insert your 5th wheel trailer) is easy....stopping is the hard part .

The real issue of towing of anything of mass is the stopping. You will find trailering it down the road is easy...good luck and enjoy...

We work as a team, and although my wife is not comfortable driving, she can handle it well. Navigating is a big job and she does it well. We hook up and and break down together. It is suppose to be a partnership not a he or she rule.
