Have tire minders on your RV and truck....

Drive no faster than 65mph.

your tires will get very hot during this time of year.

Add ten minutes to every hour of your driving time as a 'timeline'.

Have a couple of drivers

stay relaxed and calm as a LOT will be going on on this trip and know
that you can not 'take it all it in'.

take a lot of pictures

having a lot of fun is a lot of work... seize the day.

Safety first and always.

be aware of your surroundings at all times. all can be calm, but when something goes 'bad', it will go 'bad' quickly.

We were there last year and you will want to park the trailer before going to Mt. Rushmore especially with the size of your rig. I would schedule an overnight stay, see Rushmore and move on to Devil's Tower. There are plenty of RV parks in the area. You will be pushing it to make that distance in the time allotted but you appear well equipped for the trip! Safe travels!!!

Don't have a choice since this is a stop between campgrounds. If I get there and there's no place to park, I'll have to skip it.

The structure it sits in is far more impressive.

Just up the road from there on the right is a monument with two large anchors on either side. It was dedicated to my cousin who died in a lobstering accident back in 1980 when he was only 22 years old.

I'm glad to see it get the structure it needs. When I was there 25 years ago I only recall it being a fenced hole in the boardwalk.

Enjoy your trip. Exciting things ahead!

Don't forget to drive the Bear Tooth hwy. It is the best trip. It is between Red Lodge, Montana and east Yellowstone.

Enjoy your adventure. Be prepared to be flexible with your itinerary. Several of our long trips included a day or two stopped in an unexpected place because of mechanical issues. We generally didn't make reservations more than a day or two out because of that. Just consider it part of the adventure. We met some of the nicest people on those unplanned stops. It's a beautiful country.

Have a nice trip. Planning on pretty much the same route from Albany in 5 weeks, but extending it over into Utah, NV, and CA. Haven't been in Montana for 40 years, so I'm lloking forward to the trip. Enjoy.

Did something similar this winter. Left northern Florida 2 Jan, and headed west with stops at New Orleans, Galveston, San Antonio, Big Bend National Park, Las Cruses, White Sands National Monument, Phoenix, Joshua Tree National Park, San Clemente State Park, Yuma, Apache Junction, Grand Canyon, Albuquerque, Amarillo, Canton, Jackson State Park, Atlanta, then Myrtle Beach, SC for 2 weeks before heading back to Ottawa, Canada for 16 April. What an adventure, 15,000 miles over 5 months. Next adventure, our first FROG jamboree in Goshen, Ind in August. No rest for the wicked

In trying to visit the Utah 5 National Parks in 9 days from Colorado Springs, I learned not to try to push "every day at a new spot". Even with our easy setup and take-down A-frame, we found we just didn't want to move every day. We now plan 2 nights in each spot to allow a full day for local activities. If we decide we want to leave after one night, we do (temps in the high 90s will often cause us to move early unless there is a lot to do inside in the local area). And we use the extra day somewhere else.

Just something we have learned that fits our camping style.

Photo is from Wind Caves National Park - we camped at North Stockade Lake Campground in Custer State Park for 3 nights. Saw Mt Rushmore during the day and for the lighting at night - vet ceremony is special. Went wildlife hunting twice - one evening and one morning. Drove the tunnel road (without the camper). Spent most of a day at Crazy Horse. A trip we want to make again.

There are a few "non negotiable" dates in my trip.

We cannot leave until the 25th.
We must be home by the 9th
We must be in Yellowstone from the 30th - 2nd
We must be in Denver on the 5th

Everything else is "negotiable"
