Bad crimp on ferrule perhaps? Is there any sign of damage on the hose that might indicate the hose got snagged and pulled on at one time?

Might have been pulled off somewhere along the line and then just pushed back on by hand.

Wow. That looks dangerous. I'd replace both pigtails if I were you. They're not expensive. Glad there was no spark around while it was leaking.

Better to have lost same while in motion (driving) than to have a spark ignite same. To be honest you got luck on this.

That's why I don't like to have both tank valves open at same time.

I check mine before each trip. They are easily replaced and are available at any RV supply store. I've seen a few at some RV parks, too.

Are you sure the tank is empty? The excess flow valve should have closed when the hose came off.

We had the same problem last week. I heard a noise coming from the direction of the camper when I stepped out of the garage. The hose was still somewhat attached but propane was escaping from one tank due to a bad crimp on that hose - maybe happened when it did because of the very high heat that day??? Regardless there's now a new hose in place & we've joined the "one tank open at a time club"! We're at a full-hookup site this weekend but DH is taking both tanks in to be filled before we head out in a couple weeks.

A little dangerous !!! Isn't the propane supposed to stop because of uncontrolled high flow???

Has anyone ever thought of this possibility ~
You can go to a welding supply store and they should be able to re-crimp or install a new crimp on the hose if it's still in good shape.
I worked as a fabrication welder (oh so many years ago) and still have a oxy/acetylene hose repair kit down in the basement (somewhere).
