Thankfully that's an abnormal condition. I think that can happen anywhere, with anything you put in your mouth, food, drink, whatever. People die eating fresh produce that comes in a nice plastic bag, and has supposedly been washed.

working in the food/restaurant industry for 14 years my last position was a inspector/enforcer for a large franchise of restaurants ... consumers would not do well with what I have seen and fixed ... in some cases I had to start procedures to pull there licence and shut them down ... most do a good job and these were always the exception

If people only knew...
My Aunt worked in a HUGE corporate meat packing plant.
She gave us a tour and I won't comment on the things she pointed out to us privately.

My Son used to manage several franchised fast food restaurants. His biggest problem was with those who'd come to this country (legally, he checked) from from other parts of the world where sanitation practices were no where near ours.
He's bald today and claims he lost his hair trying to make sure these employees washed their hands before returning from the restroom, not picking up food dropped on the floor and returning it to food production line, and otherwise following required clean/sanitizing steps. In their country it wasn't a big deal so why would it be here?

I carry a couple of these to make sure I don't ingest any Cryptosporidium, etc if I stop to take a drink from a mountain stream or lake:
Can even be used to drink from a large glass if you question the quality of the "tap water".

Oh yeah, especially the Chinese restaurants, eh? I used do fire inspections on businesses and the local Chinese restaurants were always "eye-opening".

When my wife was a teen, their house was adjacent to a huge graveyard at the church where we later were married. There had been people buried there for probably 150 years. They had well water. It (the water) smelled so bad that my future mother-in-law took clothes to a laundry mat for nearly 20 years. Granted, most of the smell was just that nasty mid western Ohio mineral/Sulphur water....but still...I never drank it. And I often drank from a running creek when I was a kid. I'm a little more particular now.

"I drink dead people", lol. I have a sister in law in NY who has that nasty sulfur well water. I don't know why anyone would buy a house with water like that. I guess people do what they can afford. I'd rather live in a tent with good water than live like that. Smelled like somebody crapping on you when you took a shower there. Ugh.
I'm lucky I have well water that comes from between layers of limestone. Perfect. Cold.

Mi sister used to live in Hong Kong. First things they were told when the arrived was to never go into any restaurant kitchen and if they liked a particular dish, never ask what was in it.

We are in Zephyrhills FL. Today at the store I saw someone buying Zephyrhills bottled water. I was thinking, heck just turn on the faucet and save your money, it can’t be much different.

Don't forget adding a UV filter. Kills everything. Expensive, but effective. There are now 12 volt systems for RVs

Indeed UV is great for treating water. Water needs to sit in the UV light for some time to be totally effective and if you think people carp a lot about the price of a KW-1 filter, wait until you hear them squeal about the cost of the UV "lamp" that is supposed to be replaced every year.
According to the mfrs UV needs 10 seconds in the UV light to kill the bad organisms so if the flow rate (like during a shower) is high, it might not be totally effective.

20 ft dug well water. Ben a country boy most of my life and dealt with bad water over the years. I don't no more. I use a 25-micro filter inline with a 5-micron filter, then to UV light.

Don't blame you for filtering and sterilizing. 20 ft well is getting mostly surface water with stuff that lands on surface added.
As a kid we moved to a farm with similar well.
First improvement my dad made was to have a well drilled. 110 ft down ant hit an artesian source. Water tasted great and we could never pump the well below 15 feet when irrigating.

We went away from the concrete tiles and now use an 18-inch pipe, it eliminated the surface water issue. In the 20 years here we have never run dry, knock on wood.
Drilled wells in our area all have sulfur, no thanks

Brian, we were at Algonquin PP this past Fall and the water from the fill station was an orangey-brown colour. The lady beside us in the other lane showed me the water in a 2L pop bottle. I had already put about 5-10 gallons in my tank without using my external filter! There were no signs posted at the filling station. When we got to the Mew Lake office to check in the lady there said there was a boil water order for the fill station water but the water in the campground was fine.
I used to think our PPs have great utilities but after this incident and previous low-voltage problems, I’ve lost my faith in them and will play it safe like we do at a private campground.
