Mice hate peppermint!! Righhhttt!!

Winterized fifth wheel last month and after cleaning the inside thoroughly, removed any and all food I place cotton balls soaked in peppermint oil in every possible place a mouse might want to take up residence. Went inside fifth wheel today and what a mess. A roll of paper towels that were on the counter was shredded and almost all the peppermint cotton balls were gone. Crawled into basement and removed the panels to find a nice mouse nest made of peppermint cotton balls and paper towel.
I have stuffed steal wool in many places but I know there are many more spots those critters can infiltrate that I can't get to.
I went and picked up a few glue traps, fresh cab and another deterrent that smells like of all things peppermint. Well hopefully they stay out but I doubt it. I will check in this in a few days and see how things go, IT's WAR!!!!Click image for larger version

mouse traps loaded with peanut butter, be sure some gets UNDER the trigger device, so they will for sure disturb it while getting the pb, ... with mouse traps, you know you have removed them, and they WILL go after pb, ....

Put one of these outside and inside and you will greatly reduce your problem.

I don't want to bring food inside. That will only invite more mice to the party.

The proper amount of essential oil should have discolored the cotton balls. They look white in the second photo. You also have to refresh it every 4-6 weeks. Been using peppermint oil for 15 yrs and only had mice once it was when I did not replace the peppermint containers when we returned home as we were going again in 5 days.

it will also let you know that you HAVE NOT blocked all entry, ... the goal is to block all points of entry so you don't get mice in your rv, ... and the traps w/pb are a proven method of catching the ones that do get inside, .... when you stop catching them in the pb loaded traps inside, you will know you have successfully blocked all entry and killed all that did get inside, .... because if there is one inside, it WILL go to the pb trap, ... happy mousing .....

I soaked the cotton balls with this. Maybe this isn't good stuff but they were soaked and the mice liked it. What are you using that works?

I stated I know I haven't blocked all ways they can get in which I know is a problem. A lot of these entry ways are near impossible for me to get to.

This what I’m using.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002N0MZMQ...SYR6DTJO7&th=1

I think I’ve successfully plugged all the entry points but I use about 5-6 mugs with cotton balls soaked in this stuff plus about 4-5 bags of Fresh Cab dispersed throughout my TT. I put a mug in both outside storage places where they’ve been.

Cool

I've had good luck with conventional inexpensive old style small wooden traps.

My best bait success is 1/2 half of a fresh grape. I think the grape's moisture is an additional attractant.

We got a Rockwood 2506 and loaded the trailer with mint on cotton balls, snap traps with peanut butter, glue traps, dryer sheets, and Irish Spring soap. Checked on it 2 weeks ago and mice still in trailer (killed in snap traps) and others picked the trap clean after the first paid the price. It is too late in the year to comfortably pull down the underside to try to do a better job of making it mouse proof from an entry perspective. That will happen next Spring. But, I did put used kitty litter and poo under the trailer around the tires and at front jack. No mice so far for 2 weeks. Apparently the mice would rather take their chances in the woods rather than test whether there actually is a cat in the trailer. My son owns the cat and volunteered that he is happy to bring over the cleaning from the litter box free of charge!

Fresh Cab and moth balls in zip lock plastic containers with holes punched in the tops work for me.

Talking

Cab Fresh is hard to find this year. they have a new one out made by fresh cab and it list Spearmint, Rosemary, and Cedar among their ingredient.
I have used The peppermint oil on cotton pads and have not had any problems of them coming up missing.
I also grow Spearmint and peppermint in my garden and in the fall cut it and take it into the shed and place it around the camper and walk on it every time I go out there to release more of the smell.
I want to take the food processor out and grind it up but I am going to have to do it on a day when the dw is in town. It was a defendant NO on using it for that.

Well that's annoying ... we have had a lot of luck with Cloves and clove oil for past 3 seasons ... friends and fellow campers have used also ...

Best thing we ever tried was Fresh Cab. Got ours at Tractor Supply. Your rig will smell like a Christmas Tree farm for awhile, but beats the alternative.
