I like to keep it to 300 miles a day or less @ 60 to 65 MPH. That's a 6 to 6 1/2 hour day for me.

I agree with the others that you should figure on an average of 45-50 mph including all stops for fuel, stretching and food.

How long you want to travel between stops is different for everyone. I find that driving can be hard on my lower back because I have 2 bad discs, so I stop every hour to hour and a half to stretch. We've only done one trip of multiple days of driving in a row. That was with our hybrid Roo. Typically we were re-packed and on the road by around 9:30am and I've had enough by 3-4pm. My preference would be to book campsites so that we drive no more than 300 miles per day.

I would never go 10 hours. Driving while towing takes a lot more out of you than when not towing. At least, that seems to be the case for me. The longest I've done is 8.5 hours and I was totally whacked when I finished that. I tow at 65mph. I prefer to limit it to 6 hours if possible; 8 if I have to. Max 350-400 miles.

I'd say we do 300 miles max a day. We are in no rush. We like to sleep in when we can. Kids usually get on their electronics for a bit. Then we take our time packing up while kids are outside playing. We usually stop on way home for some sightseeing. I don't mind getting home late afternoon or into the evening. I just let the TV and PUP sit out front then put it away the next day. Relaxing is the name of the game even when we come home. 😀

We travel 62 mph on cruise control and average 50 mph/hour with pit stops. We travel 250 - 300 miles per day.. We leave the park around 9 to 10 AM and arrive between 3 to 4 PM at the next stop.. No reason to push for us.
If we drive two days in a row, we take a day off :-)
Drive safe, which means stop BEFORE you get tired :-)

I always heard the rule of thumb as "estimate 50 mph average and plan accordingly"

I like 350 miles. That gives me a good margin of fuel on a 36 gallon tank in my duramax and then I can unhook at a campground and go looking for cheap fuel. Truck stops are always higher it seems. Plus that's about as far as I want to drive while towing.

I start out saying I want to keep the miles down to 250 miles a day but I usually do a lot more. I start out at 63 but mostly end up at 75 as I get tired of everyone passing me. I like to leave no earlier than 8 am. I tend to arrive at campground around 4 and I hardly ever plan more than one day ahead. I hate to make a lot of plans and then something comes up and l leave late or to early. One year to Yellowstone I drove 962 miles but I had to start really early in the morning, like 3 am. Driving a long way doesn't bother me, I was a long haul driver for a year. Then I ran 2 log books to keep ahead of DOT and sometimes just I threw the log book away. Now I'm retired but I still like the journey not so much the destination.

Since we are retired and most times don't have to be somewhere by a certain date or time I try to keep the daily average down to between 275 and 350 miles per day, taking into account the type of terrain we'll traveling across, out on the flat plains the 350 trip is fine, but when in the mountains on the twisty 2 lane roads with lots of 40 mph curves I try to limit the drive to the 275 mile range. I have a extra fuel tank so stopping for fuel is usually not an issue, it's more of how long can I sit before I need a break. Taking a break about every 2 hours would be wise.

Tow a Windjammer 3029 with an F150 Ecoboost. Usually keep it around 400 miles a day but I was feeling good once and went 730 miles when headed home. Long, long day not necessarily to be repeated! I drive 60-62 mph and figure I go about 50 miles every hour when fuel and restroom breaks are figured in. Never make advance reservations while traveling except for the final destination.

My goal for long trips is 700 miles per day. I'm headed on the 1400 mile trip to Orlando in April and I expect to arrive at the end of day 2.

The Golden Rule is no more than 500 miles in a day. Of course, if weather dictates otherwise, well, so be it. You are pretty beat after 500; so shoot for less.

May the four winds blow you safely home.

We found on a recent 6,000 mile trip that making reservations is very important, especially if you are traveling anytime close to a holiday...say July 4th! We almost had to use a rest stop for the night before we finally found a opening. We now take holidays and school's out time when we travel and make most all of the reservations ahead. We can always cancel if something comes up. Something also to consider is there just may not be very many parks in the area you are stopping in for the night; better get a spot early.

We do not have a rule. We just do what we have to do. Some short (200 mile) days, some long (600+) mile days. But then we are retired and RV most of the summer.

The route says it all

I have to go by the route I am taking, if mostly interstate 300-350 and it does not beat you up too bad. If using secondary roads, well that is a different story because of the stop & go. In that case 8 hours is a good time for towing for the day.

I'm retired so not in a big rush. We try to keep it around 300 miles per day, but will do more if necessary.

No more than 7 -8 hours a day which includes potty and fuel breaks. We try to make them at the same time so a max of three hrs before we stop. Normally make about 350 miles a day. We don't travel over 70 mph at any time, other wise we go 5 mph over posted limit unless its crowded, school zone, etc.

As you can see, everyone has an opinion and a target time/mileage.
Mine is 300-400 miles @50 MPH average. (6-8 hours)

Unless you are absolutely pressed for time, you will find keeping time/mileage distances lower on the spectrum will result in a more enjoyable experience.

It is all about the journey. Take some time to enjoy it.
