I camp at NYS Rollins Pond every year. I have only seen a couple time where sites will have more than 2 dogs. However, I have been camping and persons with 1 dog think everyone love their dog so they don't leash it. Do please leash your dogs. I have had some that have come over to me and asked if their dogs barked while they were gone. I gave them and honest answer which they appreciated.
Last year I went looking for one couple because their dog was barking a lot and it was uncharacteristic for their dog. I was afraid something was wrong. I didn't want the ranger kicking them out.
Good luck with your decision?

I see that Watkins Glen SP also has a two pet rule.

I agree that if you are circumspect in your conduct that no one will notice that you have three dogs. I doubt any park staff are out dog counting. They are very short staffed.

The important thing to know about camping in NY state parks is to have paper proof of rabies/vaccinations for check-in. They will NOT accept your metal tags as proof of rabies innoculation. We have our vet make up a current vaccination sheet for each dog at the beginning of each camping season. He uses this opportunity to make sure all dogs are current. Then we bring the folder with us with all the sheets so we're covered all summer.

Thanks, We always travel with their shot records. Never know when you will need them. Even take them to the local dog park here in Wenatchee.

We never have our dogs off leash unless they are at a dog park. We actually hate it when unleashed dogs come charging at us.

I camp with a dog. I believe a rule is a rule and should be followed. I think there is too much "but, it won't hurt anyone" attitude when it comes to simple rules. In many cases, it's the abuse of simple rules that screw things up for the rest of us.

No rotation

The problem with rotation is that you are expected to show proof of current rabies vaccination at checkin.

If you show only two certificates and they find more than two dogs, they would (justifiably) throw you out.

If you show all the certificates, you're forcing the issue and they could also throw you out. The operator's problem is that if he makes an exception for you, and he has enforced the rule on another camper who is present (an all-summer resident, for example), that camper will be angrily calling on him soon.

If you can get clearance in advance, be sure to make note of the individual you spoke to, date, and time, in case the issue comes up later.

I don't envy the operator of our campground. It's hard to enforce all the rules on everyone without exceptions, but it's the best policy.

2 dog in nysp

If the rule is 2 dogs then there must be a reason. To only take 2 of the 3 on a walk is in my thoughts very childish. Call and ask if your 3 dogs would be ok. Have respect for the park rules.

If the park is 2 dogs, then 2 dogs is it. If you can’t n,t follow the rule, find another park. Very simply, follow the rule. You are no better than the next person.

If I don't hear, or am not annoyed by dogs, why would I care how many are in the site next to me. I like well behaved dogs and the more the merrier. They usually get plenty of pets from me if it's OK with their owners.

In some instances I wish there was a rule on how many loud kids one could have in their campsite, especially those who only know how to communicate by screaming.

Just say one of your dogs identifies itself as a cat.

I'm sure that in this day and age even "trans-species" are a protected class.[emoji33]

NY State park and dogs

When i was traveling to L.I., I looked at NY State parks and my recollection is they don't accept dogs at ALL. I wound paying $50 for a Suffolk cty "Green Key" which effectively gives you Suffolk cty "residency" for a year. So we got a great site at Fire Island out on a spit of sand with deer. Just lovely.

If the State restricts dogs, or has lots of restrictions (NY, gee), seems the residents get together and make their county parks work for them. and then some counties let you stay at them for an add'l fee. So check around and good luck.

Its a campground not a dog park. Plus if there are dogs around I can't keep DW from going off to pet them. Then who is going to get my beer

Barking dogs can be annoying, that's for sure. We try really hard to keep ours quiet, but he has quite the Napoleon complex.

But I'd take yapping dogs over kids running through my site, throwing balls into my trailer or truck, riding bikes in between vehicles, and spending all day riding those annoying gas golf carts around just to have something to do.
