Mount Rushmore

So I just got my Georgetown RV last year and the family did a couple trips within a couple hours drive of home in NJ. We want to go to Mt. Rushmore, are there any recommendations on campgrounds, where to stay or what else to see or do??

We are heading there this fall. We actually rented a cabin for our week long stay.
The wife is doing the planning
Start with one of the guides we have one for the black hills coming
We are planning the air and space museum you can tour a minute man silo
We are renting a boat one day and doing some fishing there also a place to rent quads and side by sides

Rafter J

We stayed at Rafter J Bar Ranch. Easy to get to everything from there. Traveled there from Ct last September. We also stopped at the Badlands for a few nights. Really enjoyed our trip and seeing everything we could.

We stopped there last year for a couple hours and eventually made our way over to Devil's Tower KOA.

X2 on Custer State Park. Many things to see in the area. They did have a major fire last fall and several "friendly Burro's were lost and injured. Still a great place to visit. Use as a central base an see everything in area. We stay a week and I should have stayed longer

We did Badlands, Devils Tower and Crazy Horse Memorial. Thought about but didn't make it to Wall Drug and the Corn Palace. Good Luck!

I stayed at The Roost. Small local owned campground near town.

Great people, good price, but make reservations early.

Badlands and Crazy Horse for sure. Wall Drug is okay but not a must see in my opinion.

Yeah If you're in to tourist traps, Wall Drugs is your place to visit. I was not impressed FWIW.....

Searching is your friend:

Favorites near Mt Rushmore

Custer, South Dakota area recommendations

And there may be a few others.

Custer State Park is my recommendation. However, it opens for reservations 12 months in advance. So, if you want to go this summer, it's going to be tricky finding a good site.

Good luck.

We stayed at Palmer Gulch KOA Resort. It is kinda pricy but has everything from horseback riding tours to Polaris RZR's. Pizza and ice cream shops restaurant and it is minutes from the entrance to Mount Rushmore.

We were there for a week using it as a base for our sight seeing and would go back in a heartbeat.

x3 for Rafter J Bar Ranch. A great family campground close to everything. We just made reservations for a week in July.

For the record, Devils Tower is vertical. I must've been horizontal when taking the photo.
