We went on a trip with our Dutchmen PUP to Panguitch Utah probably 20 years ago and our TV was a '94 Explorer. No GPS or Google maps then so after studying the good ole paper map I saw a shorter way to Panguitch using state routes. I do remember seeing a sign that said "No Trailers" but I thought that meant no big rigs.
As we got up the mountain a ways the incline got really steep (never saw a sign with the grade but it felt like 50%!). My poor ole Explorer was in first gear and the RPM's were steadily dropping - getting below 2500. I really began to think we'd have to figure out how to turn around and go back down the way we came. It started to ease up a bit after that and we gained RPM and speed and finally topped out - at Brian Head ski resort, 9800' up!
From there it was downhill to Panguitch and no other problems. At check in to the CG, the host had that "you did what?!" look on her face. But, we made it and for the trip home we took the long way without the 9800' mountian!
