You and I went to a very different flight school. No such thing as "do lists" in my schooling.

At Pensacola, every single-piloted aircraft was the same (I flew T-28s, Bell Jet Rangers, UH-1s (Hueys), and Coast Guard unique H52). Memorized start, pre-taxi, taxi, take-off, climb, cruise, approach (when IFR), landing, and shut down check lists. Memorized emergency procedures. Regular tests - verbal, written, and performed - to make sure you had and kept it right. Those who failed repeatedly were no longer pilots. There was rarely a quiet moment to review anything during a flight, even after joining operational units.

Just like preflights (which were not memorized checklists), I use patterns to make sure I get things right with the A-frame. Inside, before folding down, I move from the back to the front, and from the bottom up, turning the water pump off, setting the sink up, setting the fridge, securing the fantastic fan, releasing and folding the dormer, releasing the walls. After folding, I walk around the back from right to left, checking compartment latches, stabilizers, and hitch/WDH. As I said earlier, because interruptions to the pattern cause problems, when my wife is with me, she keeps the onlookers and visitors talking to her.

You are a better pilot than anybody else and a better camper too. Keep up the good work. With my camping checklists I can easily stop and chat with the great folks I meet along the way and then pick up where I left off. Don't have to assign the DW to fend them off - I would be afraid that people would think I was being rude if I did that.
