New Campground being built in SW Fla
Hello all, well few yrs ago it was talk on the news about building a "High End" CG. Well i guess it's in the works. Happen to drive by it yesterday. Pad's are down, plumbing pipes sticking out of the ground. No Roads/Grass down yet.
But what i did see is that the Pads are really close to each other. Being build as a High End RV CG, you would think plenty of campsite room, guess not.
Are any new CG's going up in your area? Not really planning on going there but hope it opens up spots at other local CG's.

There are 3 so called, high end R/V Resorts in the planning/clearing/building stages near us in Crescent City, FL.
Two in the building stages have very nice sites with paved roads and patio paver areas for every site and very little room between sites.
The third is showing on the building plan to have 300+ sites on a piece of ground about the size of four football fields.
It's all about money how many units they can cram in the space they have. Build it and they will come! The first two I mentioned are already at 80% pre-booked capacity.

ya demand way up in past 5 years, so I doubt you will see many more opportunities at any SW FL campsite WITH amenities like electric and water... now some of those primitive sites between I-75 and Tamiami Trail are usually available

There's a new 55 and over RV Resort outskirts of Ocala opening up called Southern Springs RV Resort May 1st. I know someone that has seen it and is well set up with fairly good size sites with Concrete Pads. Other good amenities from what I can tell from their site. They were at the Tampa RV Show.

well we do need more CG's in Fla. As during season, hard to find a place to go to for a few days. An as far as the High End one's, well one that we went to yrs ago use to be about $45/55 a night is now $110. And it's not really a high end CG. Got taken over by a huge Corp. As we recently got a new 5'er and i have been checking out CG's to go to Closest one i found w/opening was 3 hrs away.
And like one of you folks said, build an they will come, thats for darn sure. I live on an island, an as 3 RV's leave the island 4/5 more coming on to it.

Charlotte County, FL has campground building codes like they do home building codes. The new(er) codes require adequate spacings-much more than previous and actually spacious. We stayed at one commercial campground near Englewood. We got there early and had to stay at one of the older sites. We couldn't open the slides. Note: that one night stay was very expensive-approaching the price of a motel. The next day, we moved onto the reserved lot and it was more than twice the size. Lee County (Cape Coral area) may have different codes.

Just got Charlotte County approval for one at Gasparilla Road and Rotonda Blvd E. Some of my neighbors are furious (I live in RW). I'd rather have an RV resort at that corner than some of the other crap that could be built in a business-zoned locale.

So I live across in South Gulf Cove. I know Tarpon Grove LLC bought multiple lots encompassing Wood Lake Road which is off Gasparilla Rd. last summer I haven't seen any news on their website about an RV park. Where did u see that info or was the Rotandi HOA provided that ? Just curious.

SUN - Port Charlotte Jan 11th, and discussed in Rotonda West and SGC forums. Think it's a done deal and yesterday I noticed some dump trucks exiting to Gasp. Rd. near Keystone Blvd.

The majority of RV Parks in FL are tight and I don’t think any new ones will be much different. Any RV spot in FL will be booked for the winter months. If you want to come down here during winter you will take the first reservation you can get, if you don’t take it right away someone else will. The competition here is the consumers looking for spaces, it is not the RV parks vying for customers so the RV parks can get away with building whatever they can fit on their property. I just hope the RV Parks continue to offer decent amenities because they could probably get away with not doing much besides providing a spot to put your RV.

I believe they just passed an ordinance in Lee County Florida (Fort Myers area) banning any new RV parks.

Rusty, i wouldn't put it past them to do something like that. This county (lee) is getting pretty sad, the way they run things or lack of.

I have been in that Ft Meyers area in Jan and Feb... what a nightmare traffic situation most places anywhere near the coast around there... If I lived there I would certainly limit new high-density housing which a CG tends to be. For the past few years, I have typically visited in the late fall and traffic is heavy but at least somewhat reasonable.
The pleasure I have had going to FL in the winter months has, at least for me , been mitigated in the past 5 years due to increased traffic in many of the most desirable areas. That even includes the Destin area.
The wife and I stayed away last winter and now again this winter due to some health concerns... not saying that FL is un-healthy... just our personal situation made it so that staying home was the more conservative approach to our situation.
Currently I am looking forward to visiting Ft Meyer next October and then head up to the "Forgotten Coast" area where, as the name implies, congestion is not a big problem most anytime of the year. OOPS, maybe I should not have let that slip out... if you enjoy space and a slower pace.

You too funny. You appear to be a snowbird, yet you're complaining about the high traffic during snowbird season. If you lived here, you wouldn't be limiting high-density anything, because this area has been discovered by, yes, you folks. Not busting your chops, I was once a snowbird.

So..... have you turned into a reverse - snowbird yet? Going north for the summer because of the heat in Florida?
