what size storage canopy?

Hello new here and to camping. have rockwood 2906ws and would like to have wooden shelter built to keep out of weather and use when home with slides out. what size would work? thinking 13'6" h x20'w x 40' l. may be overkill. Thanks

Welcome to the forum its a great place to get your questions answered. You are asking a question only you can answer and be happy with the end result. What I would do is to Open the slides measure side to side and add 10' I would do the same from rear bumper to coupler.

I think your "right on" as to the size your considering. It is very close to the building I built a few years ago and it nice to have the extra size for other usage or IF you decide to go with a larger RV. Go for it, your thinking correctly!

I have two "cover-tech" garages that I have had for a few years now. Really happy with them and quicker than putting up a structure.

If you might ever consider moving up to a 5th wheel, I suggest you build it too big for now, but so that it might accommodate a potential future purchase. Same thought on electrical, if you are going to run power I would include both 30 and 50 amp.

Rule of thumb: your garage should be 20% larger than your house.

Make sure you understand and explain the wiring for your 50 amp if you hire an electrican. Seems all to common lately that people ask for a 50 amp connection and wind up with 240v instead of 120v and everything goes up in smoke.

I am not familiar with your unit, so wasn't sure if it was 30 or 50 amp service, that is why I suggested both.

Welcome to the forum and camping. When you build your shelter you should consider having a water and sewer connection for use when home. I have water and electric but no sewer. (Keep thinking about it but haven't done it yet.)

a 50 will run both. you use an adapter change 50 to 30.

Not knowing your full situation, this might not apply. Do you have shelter for your tow vehicle ( garage or other structure ). If so, would that shelter work if you need to upgrade later, should you go to a 5th wheel ( 1/2 ton vs 3/4 or 1 ton ). If you don't currently have TV shelter ( or might need more space later ), you might consider going wider. I'd also go a bit taller. You're good now, but in the future, you might need a bit more vertical clearance.

Maybe go to 24’x40’x14’ high. You can get a 5er under that.

Go with the 50 amp receptacle. Electricians won’t screw up the 50 amp receptacle, it’s 240 volts. It’s the 30 amp 120 volt receptacles that they wire for 240 volts and fry things.

Yep, I've seen it done.

Ha, I could actually have my wife call her. It was my wife that got me into track days and cars.
