I have never been on a premium site ever. I did post a work around but most places I stay the premium sites are booked every Fri-Sun for the entire season. I have friends who book 11+ months in advance.

I simply choose a site because it is available and I live full time. $10 is much cheaper than all others.

I am saving for a house and 10-20 acres down payment then I will end my FT status.

Not to many Iowa or Illinois CG are full with the exception of 4th of July. I like cold so I stay then also until they close. Then I hop to Military bases which have great winter rates and are open 365

You could mess up thier plan by reserving the site one day a week for five or six weeks.

I have an account at/with Recreation.org. Isn't that the reservation site for these campgrounds? Set-up another account in a different name and use that. PO box? Business address? etc. Yes. It is cheating, but it isn't a bad cheat...

You know that many of these homesteaders and squatters think of themselves as full-timers don't you?

We've been seeing it more and more all over the country. Most recently near Seattle and Portland in the county parks during our spring trip up that way. But also last winter down in Florida.

Kind of sad to see a single mom living out of her car with a couple kids and a small tent show up at the campground and seem to not know the first thing about what to do.

There but for the grace of God go I.

Went to a NFCG a couple of weeks ago the locals just park their trailers there for the summer. Sure would be nice if they enforced the 14 day rule so some of us non-locals could camp.

I think there is some confusion on the Rangers' part. In Salt Springs in the Ocala National Forest here in Florida they allow "seasonal camping", 3 months at a time in certain months of the year. What that rule might be for some national parks it might not be true for others including National Forests.

Not to hijack this thread - but anyone who doesn't currently have their Senior Pass might want to act now (must be at least 62 years of age). Effective August 28, 2017 the cost is increasing from $10.00 to $80.00.

Local CG we like to go to during the summer, about 3 years ago, there was a group of about a dozen campers that moved in the same spots, about 2 weeks before the CG even opened...(no clue how they pulled that off)...but they would homestead until the end of October when the CG closes. They put up temp fences, small storage boxes, pile of firewood that had to be 4 or 5 cords. New camp host this year...that actually "Enforces" the 14 day rule and made these campers move every 14 days. Took till about mid June for this group to get the hint and they left completely and haven't been back yet.

We were better off when you just showed up for a camp site and did not have do the reserv on line. Ya hate folks that abuse the system. Later RJD
