New slide topper disintegrating!!!

Had a Carefree slide topper installed by my dealer on June 27th. As of late September it was disintegrating (see picture). At first dealer said it was hail damage. When I proved the rig was not out in any hail they then said it must be wind damage. I have not had the rig out in any high winds, either. Obviously the dealer does not want to replace the 3 month old slide topper. Any idea what is causing the slide topper to disintegrate? Thanks!

Sat too long in a warehouse some where and dried out. I have a patio awning that is coming apart at the stitched seams!

It does look like it is coming apart at the seam stitching holding the polycord attachment.
Regardless, I see no reason Carefree shouldn't replace it.
Have you spoken to them?
Sounds like the typical dealer run-around.

X2. I bet Carefree will not be happy after you forward the info to them. My Dometic awning has info on the sticker on the tube(after unwinding all the way). I would see if you can see a production date.

Stayed in your city and drove up Piles Peak. My best friend lives outside of Denver.

Wow, you check to see if under warranty. Thats not that much time. Are they refusing to replace it?

Contact Carefree directly and they may suggest an independent RV shop to fix it under warranty, if your dealer refuses.

I bet THAT was FUN! What did you do, get weather records for the area or something?

I was wondering the same thing. If I had to take a guess after just viewing the picture, I would say it was an old brittle awning that went through a hail storm when rolled up.

If you can't get anybody to warranty it, you could turn it into insurance. If it was me, I would just buy the new material and replace it myself or have a mobile shop do it.

But surely if you show your sales receipt to Carefree, they will offer some sort of assistance.

If you purchased it as new, it HAS a Warranty.

I am one of those who will push to get a dealer to do what they are Supposed to do willingly.

I would first inform the dealer that if they are not willing to honor and correct the issue your next call will be to the Attorney General's office in your state.

The AG has a Consumer Protection Division whose job it is to solve issues like this by requiring those doing business in their state to abide by their obligations.

You have not filled out your signature so I have NO idea which state you are in, so I am unable to assist in finding the AG's CPD in your state. A google search will turn it up quickly though.

Good Luck

When my 9-month-old Carefree slide awning broke, they were willing to replace it but didn't want to pay for any labor, which was $200.

My dealer's warranty rep and service mgr both called Carefree with no luck. I finally called and they reluctantly agreed to pay half the labor.

I will never buy another one of their products.
