New truck great improvement

So I was able to get approval to upgrade trucks. I was pulling my 273RL with a half ton Dodge. Needless to say the most I will ever pull with a half ton is 7000 lbs fully loaded or around 5500 empty.

So I went to a 2003 Dodge 2500 Cummins. I also installed the Edge Juice with Attitude. So here are the mileage stats.

Empty Edge level 1
23.6 mpg
Towing trailer Edge 2 & 3 (400 mile trip)
16.6 mpg

Needless to say this is a much better setup since I was only getting 12 mpg dry and 5.25 towing with the half ton.

So for all of you thinking about upgrading campers or on the fence about will your truck tow it be ready to upgrade I only lasted 3 camping trips.

I am towing with an 06 Ram Quad Cab shortbed Hemi auto, and I'm pulling a 30 footer Flagstaff V-lite that's NOT so lite! It says 5700 dry weight, and I figure loaded and wet about 6500 lbs. It definitely has a hard time, and I have installed Flowmaster duals, and a K&N intake. My best mpg. towing is 7.5 and thats with tow/haul off at 65-70 in sunny flat Florida. I'll only venture about 300 miles away, because of the load on the truck.
However the cost of Diesel around here has hit 5.00 gal., and regular is still around 3.99. So I think I'll keep it for now. Randy

I am an engineer so I justified all the math on upgrading to a new truck. So right now you say you get 7.5 mpg and my dsl gets 16.5 which is 2.2 times as much. So with that said you would still be ahead (fuel based only) even if dsl ran 8.78 a gallon.

I figured in my increased truck price plus added cost for maint and I still saved enough each month to justify my 150 bucks more a month in loan payment.
