Newbie - Went out for First Time - Questions

We bought our 16FQ on Saturday and stayed in it on the way home Saturday night. We are very pleased with our setup. But as rookies, we do have questions.

Black Tank - Seemed like it filled up fast for the two of us but there may have been some water in there from testing the system. Question - Even with watching the monitors, I always hear don't trust them. What happens if that does fill up? does it just come up through the toilet or other?

Cleaning Black Water - I have the Rhino blaster and it sure seemed to work. I see the other tool of choice is a swivel stick in the toilet. Is there a preference.

Fresh Water Tank - We were filling that up and water started coming out under the bottom. I think this may have been an overflow but will ask the dealer today. It did stop after a bit. Does that sound reasonable?

Weight distribution hitch - Does it make more sense to add this once on completely level ground?

Thanks for your responses ahead of time.

Dan

Yes if the black tank gets full the toilet will backup and not flush. You will get the feel for how much is in the tank the more you use it. Yes the gauges in the tanks are not very reliable.
Your grey tank will be full if none of your sinks will drain.
The black tank rinse on trailers seems to work pretty well from my view. I like to leave about five gallons of water in my grey & black tank to slosh around while traveling to the next destination and then drain upon arrival before anything settles out too much. You could not do this if going straight home after a trip.
The WDH does need to be installed while everything is close to level. If you need one.
Hope this helps !

One other note on the grey tank - on some TT's (and MH's I presume) the shower can start showing water backing up into it before you'd notice anything in a sink drain.

What are you towing with? A trailer that light most likely doesn't need a weight distribution hitch.

towing with a 2017 Traverse with the V92 towing package.
I realize the weight distribution may not be needed but this is only FWD and I figured it would be worth a few extra dollars for my sanity.

Your tank sensors can get bridged with toilet paper or stuff. If your a Rhino blaster is a hose fitting on the tank drain, it’s not that effective.
I wanted to install a flush fitting on the side of my tank but the frame prevented that. I use a wand to blast the tank sides but only bother with that if attempting to clean off level sensors or for end of season clean out. Don’t expect to have a perfectly clean black tank after each trip ;(
There is a freshwater tank overflow under the trailer.
A WDH would make a more comfortable tow.
The dealer convinced me to get a WDH and had a great deal on a used one. Levels out the tow vehicle, gets rid of porpoising on highway seams, and makes it drive like one long vehicle on the interstate. This was on a 2008 V6 Explorer with tow package rated to tow 5225#, towing my signature TT 3877# GVWR. I don’t really need it with my newer truck but it still accomplishes the above, plus less side wind concerns.

Yes, your car's owners manual Towing section will probably state you need a WDH.
You have a car towing a full height travel trailer so a WDH with sway control is definitely a proper choice.

If you have front wheel drive you should be using a WDH. The WDH will transfer weight to the front wheels. Weight on the front wheels will increase traction, this can be very noticeable in wet and slippery conditions.
Buy a WDH hitch for the correct weight. Bigger is not better in this case.

I had the camper dealership match me up with one.
I can say I notice the difference when moving it just a bit without it attached.
