No Longer Needed

Now that I have purchased a new tow behind TT, any ideas on how to sell or get dispose of a 16K Reese 5th Wheel Hitch with slide? I guess the question is advertise on forum classified, Craig's List, or is the resale value not worth it, and take to recycle center and sell for scrap iron?

May seem like a silly question but I really don't need a 250lb hunk of steel sitting in the yard.

It's worth selling. I would advertise it here in the classifieds forum but would also put it up for sale in my area on Craigslist & other related forums. I haven't use "Let it go" phone app yet but might be worth a try.

Not a silly question in my humble opinion. I have a spare myself... hauled it 2400 miles round trip one year to sell at Goshen rally garage sale -- and 2700 miles the next year! I still have it. I may try to sell it at an RV dealership but a couple have told me they don't deal in them.

We have seen some get sold through our classified ads here.

Scrap steel prices in my area are about 5 cents per lb. It is worth it for you to sell it locally online.

My old 5th wheel sold in less than a week. I helped the process by investing an hour to sand the rust off and repaint it with 2 coats of pain-flat black.

It looked like new when I was done with it and the extra $100 I got was worth the effort and I think it made it easier to sell. I listed it for $325 and sold it for $300 not bad considering a new one costs about $250 more plus shipping. My hitch was 9 years old.

Looks matter in life and it is amazing how some folks sell stuff like cars without cleaning them first before snapping pics.

This was my 3rd hitch I've sold in my years camping. Prior two were Equalizer hitches and all got fresh paint to make them look new again.

Excellent replies, I thank you all. Have checked with several dealerships and no-go. they want to sell new. I don't blame them, I would to if I were a dealer.
Sounds like little elbow grease and a few cans of paint, then post for sale. thanks again.....

If the money is not a big deal there are charities out there that will take it. The tax break might be worth more than you can get for it.

I bought mine on Craig's list for ?? $150 I think, drove like 75 miles and was glad to get it. Put her up for sale. As stated a coat of Krylon will increase the value. I don't think I would have paid $300, but you never know.

It is listed new online for $250 at camping world so you did very well.

On edit: oops that was the 15k Reese. The 16k is new at $389 at adventure net

Put it on Craigslist, I sold my Reese 16K a couple of years ago in a couple of days for full asking price. Also sold other items on CL fairly quick.

Do you mind my asking what you got? We are looking at a heavier trailer and will need to be upgrading our hitch. As a result we are selling our Reese 15k. Not sure what to ask.

$450. It was 2 years old and ana a slider not not include the rails. I cleaned it up and spray painted it where needed. A gentleman drove up from Montgomery which is two hours away.

Sorry had to correct price, checked my old CL post.
