Noisy Campgrounds

It may just be me but has anyone noticed that campgrounds are getting noisier. I don't mean families and kids...Trucks. This is NOT intended to offend our friends with stock engines, especially those with diesel. I am talking about those who have installed "cherry bombs" etc or anything else that increases the sound and roar of their engines. Was out this past week and at 7:30 several went past my site and "kicked" them in and it would have awakened the dead which I was not. A little courtesy with these would be appreciated.

Yep, last 3 camping trips this year had a few straight pipe diesels driving around the campground, little hard to enjoy camping during the drive by.

Their behavior ain't gonna change so we make every attempt to stay away from these redneck campgrounds.

We live in rv parks and campgrounds full time and have since 2013. Common courtesy, common sense and basic people skills have been on the decline the last few years.
It is now the " watch this, watch me, my (insert words here) is bigger, better, more expensive than yours " segment of camping folks you have coming to recreational places and parks. Will this type of behavior continue? I don't have an answer but I have seen folks asked to leave places because they just won't quiet down or settle down. Sad.

We used to live in the quiet country.
Now we live in RUMBLE TRUCK HEAVEN

(and we didn't move)
from the 5:30am going to work and idling for 10 minutes, to the coming in at 1am.

We avoid these as well, and are sad when we see this happen to some of our favorite places. Fortunately, most of our favorites don’t draw this type of folks

Yup. Look at MEEEEE! My truck is so loud everyone will turn and look! Look at all the lights I have on at my site!!! My camper looks like the mother ship from Close Encounters! So cool, everyone will LOVE IT!

Oh, and I had to tell 4 different people this weekend to go around my occupied site, not walk through it. They were not kids, but didn't look like they were old enough to own an RV. I guess whoever brought them failed to educate them on park protocol 101.

Since we avoid camping during the summer and holidays, we rarely experience this behavior.

All of what's been noted in the previous posts exists in Alaska. It is to be expected. Our camping season at best is 3 months long. During our camping season the sun is out just about all of a calendar day. Many Sport Fishing and Subsistence Fishing seasons coincide with camping. Alaskans get out in the summertime. It is not uncommon, in State Parks or on BLM Lands, to have boats being launched 24/7, or Float Planes shuttling fishermen onto the lakes all hours of the day. Folks who purchase "day use" passes have until 10 PM to vacate the parks and they use every hour they can. They are allowed to return to start a new day at 7:30 AM. Is it noisy? Yes it is!, but it's the nature of the beast. You get used to it. Probably not the place you want to be if you go to bed early or want to sleep late. There are private CG's better suited for this.

i tend to agree to a point...

I am a gear head through and through, at the campground i am seasonal at, i do have the loudest vehicles out of anyone (especially the viper).

That being said, i try my hardest not to run a car between 8pm and 9am. And when i do run a car i idle my way through camp as quietly and quickly as possible.

Same thing i do in my neighborhood at home when i drive one of my loud cars to work in the morning.

One of the many advantages of being retired. Wife and I avoid best as we can the busy places on Saturday and Sunday

Who's generation invented Hot Rods and loud bikes? Now that the next (and 3rd) generation is hopping up the trucks all I hear is Mr Magoo complain about how thing were better in the past.

I guess I don’t understand why would you start your truck 3-4 times a day and stand next to it while it’s running and have to yell to have a conversation with friends.
I do get it that some people like the loud engines and exhaust but I would rather have loud music at a campground than loud engines and exhaust .

Also what is a redneck campground?

I agree, but nothing is new this has been going on for years. Have not noticed a change..

At least the campground we go to does not allow gas golf carts and motorcycles due to the loud noise............

Hate when the neighbor blasts their outdoor speakers.

Campgrounds are unusually full of people these days. People are noisy in general. Some more than others. Some folks are bothered by some noise that others don't even notice. If we chose to be in a busy campground on a weekend, we know it will be noisy and full of all types of people that may act differently from us.
I run my straight pipe diesel to give grumpy folks something to grump about. Public service......

I read this morning that New York has passed a law prohibiting devices that make a vehicle louder. I wonder if that means stereos ALSO????

The only time recently I have really noticed any excessive noise was during Ohio Bike Week. That's to be expected and you just need to know going in that sleep may not be plentiful for the week.

It does seem like some people spend a lot of time running in and out of the campground in their trucks but it hasn't been enough noise to really bother me.

I have a somewhat loud bike and fairly loud truck and always idle through the campground when I come and go. I like to try to keep the noise and dust if there's stone drives down. I also know that at any moment kids and/or pets could appear in the road. Could even be an adult suddenly appear from behind a parked truck or something.

I also love the diesel guys that are leaving the campground at 6am but have to start their truck at 5:30 am and let it idle for 30 minutes.
