Just returned from Cherokee and Great Smokey Mts. Smoke is pretty bad and with drought, all fishing streams in mountains extremely low. No rain predicted and they are about 30 inches below water table in western NC/SC.

We're in Rutherfordton for 9 days, about 15 miles from Lake Lure. No problems at all but saw lots of haze on way here, especially around Statesville. But not enough there to be a real visibility problem. Just noticeable.
It was smoky all the way from Greensboro to Raleigh today. Coworkers husband got sent home early today from the western side of Greensboro. Mebane and Hillsborough were pretty thick and hazy with a definite wood burning smell.
I'm just southwest of Raleigh and the smoke was heavy enough yesterday that I decided to not do the outside house painting I've have going on. It looks like today will be just as bad.
