Occupancy police???

I am working on a long trip from Florida to NY and back, staying primarily in State Parks. The majority of them have a 6 person occupancy rule. I am planning to travel with my daughter and son-in-law with 4 grandchildren. The trailer will handle them just fine (sleeps 9).
Has anyone ever had a problem with going over the "max payload" for the campsite, or are they usually left alone? We will only be "2 over" with one of them being 5 months old.

Have been over many times with the kids bringing friends and never had a problem at a State Park (and Ohio has that same 6 limit posted). Have been questioned at Private parks though. As long as they are not causing problems that would arouse the local rangers you should be fine.

I have 5 children so I break that rule everytime I camp at a state park. A private campground I go to annually doesn't have a problem with it, but I can't speak for other private campgrounds. I know some charge a fee for an extra child or adult over the occupancy.

And I wouldn't count a 5 month old baby.

I haven't heard of an occupancy limit in Oklahoma's state parks, although here on Lake Eufaula they will limit each site to 1 RV and 1 tent. I have seen 3 or 4 tents on a site with several people. I guess if no one complains the Rangers don't say anything.
All 10 of you could camp next to me and I wouldn't say a word.
Just stay out of my ice chest unless invited!

Good luck and happy camping!

i think most occupancy limits are set so you dont have the teenage parties with 5 tents in one camp spot.

As your party contains only family members you are within the required amount of people if you were staying in WI. my guess is most other states follow the same general rules.

Thanks for all the replies. We have not usually had a problem, but we stay mostly in Florida. The areas that we are going to stay on our way up are Georgia (Tallulah Gorge SP), Virginia (Claytor Lake SP), and Pennsylvania (Caledonia SP). I have loceted the parks that we are planning to stay at in all but New York, I'm still working that one out. The one I have in mind is Clarence Fahnestock SP. If anyone has stayed at any of these, I'd appreciate some input as to good or bad. Thanks

I had this issue with the reservation system online with Ga SPs last month. I called their operator and she then asked the supervisor. We often take an assistant caregiver to help with our son and this time we invited a friend of my daughters. Because the helper who is an adult and my duaghter's friend were not immediate family they said no. So I hung up the phone and went online and booked but only declared 6.. Cest la vie...

I camp in Florida state parks almost exclusively, and have never had any problems with an extra or 2. Just don't make it real obvious, like parading the whole clan into the ranger station to check-in, as an example, and you'll be fine. Randy
