Oven went Ker-Bang

Its not often I use the oven I cook outside most times. Last week while cooking eggplant parmesan there was a loud ker-bang. I pre heated the oven to 350 and inserted the eggplant after about 15 minutes the loud ker-bang happened. I opened the oven to find the large ceramic tile I had in the lower section of the oven to even out the heat had exploded into five pieces looks like I will have to purchase a pizza stone to replace.

Been there, done that! A floor tile we used broke into about a half dozen pieces. We got a pizza stone after that and no more Ker-Bang!

That's why I wrapped my ceramic tile a couple of times in both directions with aluminum foil. Yes, it cracked... but it didn't scatter so I'm still using it 4+ years later.

We were in Buckies and bought a cast iron flat pan that fits the oven perfect and works great for anything you want to cook in there. Round with 2 handles. I think 14 inches across.

At least it was just a pizza stone. Much better to hear a Ker-Bang than a Kaa-Boom

I used a stone from pampered chef. Shattered into 5 pieces. Wife was less than pleased with me and all who suggested using a (her) pizza stone.

We used to use a pizza stone but now we use an airbake cookie sheet. No more burned biscuit bottoms and it's light weight and basically unbreakable. It actually works better for not burning the bottoms of rolls and biscuits.

Ceramic tiles may not work for you.
A ceramic tile does work for us.

I wonder from the comments... how many are actually baking on the stone/tile/air bake sheet?

We have used a pizza stone in our last 3 R/Vs but we DON'T bake on it.
It is simply a diffuser at the bottom of the oven for more even heat.
Works great for us.

We place our light colored pan with sweet rolls or biscuits directly on the air bake cookie sheet. The bottom brown only slightly more than the tops. Note must be air bake not single ply standard cookie sheet. Much lighter and unbreakable.

That’s exactly what I did with wife’s well seasoned stone. It exploded the first time used for this purpose.
