PDI when the TT is being brought to you from out of state...

I am in Colorado and found a new Palomini 180FB for about $2500 cheaper...including shipping in WV.

I am a little concerned about doing the PDI when the driver shows up. If something is messed up what would I do since the trailer is paid for?

I was thinking about changing the delivery address to a nearby camp ground with hookups so I can test all of the systems.

Thoughts?

With it being paid for they will ask "Where do I drop it" your beef will be with a dealer, not transport.

I haven't sent cash yet...

I will call the dealer tomorrow to make sure we are crystal clear on how this works.

I would be more concerned about any kind of damage during transport, not likely but you never know.

We bought our's sight unseen from several states over, luckily for us all went good, we didn't know half of what we know now, we got lucky all around. We got a good unit, found a great Mom and Pop dealer that has been great, very close to home. From all the horror stories I feel good about our's.

I hope your experience goes as well.

I wanted to pick it up myself but uhaul seems to be the only truck rental company that does one ways and lets you tow your own trailer....and they want 1k.

Where are you going to store your new unit? If you do not have a TV how are you going to move it around? Plus most RV delivery drivers are only hired to drop off the unit not sit around and perform a PDI. They will just drop off unit a leave (only after you do and inspection of the outside for damage). If there is something wrong with your trailer it will up to you to find a dealer in the area that will be willing to do the repairs. Is this worth the $2500 you are saving?

Transport is just transport, they will not have anything to do with a PDI. If you can't find the model near home, spend some of the savings to fly out and do the PDI at the dealer.

Keep in mind the transport driver does not work for the RV dealer and has no liability to them other than getting the trailer to you safely he or she has nothing to do with your PDI, the PDI is between you and the dealer.

Not many RV dealers have delivery drivers.

Good Luck !!!!

Find out where the transporter will put it. They may drop it in front of your house or in your driveway unhitch and leave. They generally don't jockey it around to where you want it.

Personally for $2500 I would find it and buy it locally. For the amount you are spending on a new unit it is worth while. Also any warranty issues in my experience are easier and quicker at the dealership you bought from rather than a dealership you didn't.

Agreed....there are tons of stories in this forum about people trying to get service from a dealer other than where they bought the unit...in majority of cases they get turned away.

I have talked to several dealers that have said we will not do warranty work on anything not purchased from us, we will fix it for you after their own customers, then you will be charged normal rates. It is not worth the hassle and their expense.

We bought our Flagstaff 27 RLWS from Cheyenne Camping Center, and had it delivered to Eastern Montana in July 2013. The driver spent several hours with us going over the trailer, and it's operation. We didn't have any issues with it, and have only had minor problems that I have fixed. I think the driver did a great job for us.

I purchased our TT sight unseen from a dealer 2500 miles away. Our first TT with a lot to learn. I had our TT dropped off at my local car repair and my mechanic did a PDI with me free of charge. Questions were answered by my mechanic, who has been a RV'er for many years, and posts to this forum which has been very helpful. The dealer, RV wholesalers, was very good at finding a local shop in my area when warranty work was needed. My TT even needed to be towed back to the factory for warrenty work which the dealership arranged. This was at no cost to me. There are no local RV dealers close to my home and the Forest River dealers in my area were not interested in any kind of warrenty repair since I did not purchase from them, Oh well...There are plenty of independent shops that will repair your TT under warrenty. Yes it is a gamble not doing the PDI at the dealership, but it not rocket science and with a little help all will be well.

Change of plans...

Road trip to WV...picking it up myself and starting the road trip there I have a V8 05 Tundra as my TV.

Interesting what is being said about FR dealers not wanting to service the trailer because I didn't buy it there.

How on earth do they even have a choice? They are FR dealer. I would assume that is the deal the dealer makes when they decide to carry FR RVs?

You're making a common newbie mistake, thinking that the RV industry works like the Auto industry.
They do NOT!
They only things they have in common, is that they both sell things with wheels, at dealerships.
Other than that, they couldn't operate more differently.

RV manufacturers have very little power over their dealers. They can't "make" them service units they didn't sell.
That's why on every FR brands' brochure, there's a disclaimer about buying local.

So, if you have a ford, Chevy or Lincoln you can take your car to any dealer who carries that national brand.....no problem. If you have a Foreest River as the parent company and the dealership doses not carry that particular model or brand within all the brands that Forest River makes, I have learned they will not service a particular model or brand at their dealership even thou the parent company is Forrest River. In other words if they did not sell you the RV then they are not particularly interested in servicing it. Sad by true. This has been my experience, and this may be different for others. It's late tonight and perhaps I have had too much whiskey !!!

IMHO this will be the best thing you can do to protect yourself and your investment.

Do the PDI at the dealer if you find ANYTHING wrong make sure it is fixed before you pay them.

It might be a good idea to plan on spending a couple of days or three so things get done.

If you can spare the time spend a day/night at a local CG and shake it out.
