I am currently in a county park campground near Door County Wisconsin. There is a sticker on the pedestal that states:
"Turn disconnecting switch or circuit breaker off before inserting or removing plug. Plug must be fully inserted or removed."
I guess that is the rule.
I do it anyway.

As Scott mentioned... everyone looks at this differently.

Those with an EMS don't care because they have something inline when plugging in that doesn't allow current to be drawn right away.

Those of us that religiously turn off high current draw items (water heater, A/C, etc) don't really care so much because the very small current draw when plugging in isn't any worse than plugging in a lamp or a fan that was left on.

Those that just plug and unplug without regard to what may have been on/off when doing so could get some arcing and start to melt the plug/receptacle contacts.

And finally you have those that believe turning the breaker on/off is as bad as the sky falling.

Everyone has THEIR own way.

Sounds like a similar situation. Turn it off, plug in and turn it on. No one's perfect, as nice as it would be to meet someone that is.
Too bad we haven't met.

And here is a photo of one in my R/V's power distribution box so they are used in the R/V industry.

Kids

Maybe it's just because I am getting old and crotchety, but i hate when people let their kids run through other people's campsites. We were at a campsite once and kids were running through our campsite like it was home.

My pet peeve is people not pickup up after their pets. We have 3 Shelties and never go out without a bag in our pocket.

My Gramma used to tell me that you could tell a LOT about a person by the size of the things that pissed them off.

To those that shut off at the power pedestal What do you do at the campgrounds that have pedestals without switches. In 36 plus years of camping and having never a issue with a bad plug from connecting or disconnecting hot I don't think it really makes a difference just don't leave your AC or water heater on and should be no major arcing or plug damage. Pedestals that are usually bad are caused mainly from people driving off with the cord still plugged in. That being said my biggest peeve is when the site hasn't been cleaned up by previous user I.E. trash cigarette butts half of cooked food in fire ring etc. dog leavings beer cans strewn about. Damaged campground amenities not reported to camp ground staff. and last and not least people marking their teritority like a dog by cutting their name in trees and tables. I was always taught to leave with the area clean or cleaner than when you got there. (my dads and boy scout training)

All my Gramma taught me was how to cuss. She was a pro. I could embarrass some of the old salts when I was in the Coast Guard. Good thing a change in careers cleaned up that language. It wouldn’t have been well received from the pulpit. Anyway it doesn’t P me off, just an irritant.

Now things like inequlity, racism, child abuse, mysogyny, school shootings, judgmentalism and the like Piss me Off.

My 30 amp outlet at home has no switch to turn it off. I just plug in and Shazam! Power to the RV. Been doing that for 14 years and 4 RVs. Never been a problem.

Breakers VS Barkers.

I can deal with the Breakers left on no problem, But what about the yahoo's that tie Fluffy the yapping dog to the tongue of the camper and leave for the day and the rest of us have to listen to non stop yapping. Of course as the Yahoo's pull back in Fluffy stops and they think everything has been OK.

Not happen in our seasonal park. A dog outside without an owner will be removed from the park to the pound.
