Maybe these old brochures will help. At least they will show how the trailer left the factory originally. Any deviance from the shown floorplans would indicate modification after they were manufactured.

Good find! This should allow the OP to determine what he is really looking at.

He was looking at a 2005 or 2006. The 2005 brochure lists the SV-291 but not the SV-304. The 2008 brochure lists both. I wonder whether he's really looking at one of the first SV-304s where the factory didn't have an SV-304 decal yet and used the SV-291 decal.

Now that would be awful.
Surely there is some way to change the registration because its original registration was in another country.
We do things a bit differently over here. The length isn't much of an issue and I don't think we go by VIN number to determine length. IF I remember correctly, my registration on our previous trailer had a printed description of the trailer which didn't include length.. just model number. They assume a model 291 would be around 29+ feet long. But every state does registration differently.
We typically don't get stopped unless our registration is expired, we're speeding or the police see a dangerous condition.
As to the modifications, some people don't like the kitchen in the slideout because they are worried about the weight in the slide or movement of the supply lines being in the slide. I'm not saying they are right. I've just heard the arguments.
Sure hope you can get the registration worked out.
