Pool Noodles on gutters: What keeps them in place?

Yes another winterizing question. I've read many a thread on winterizing & covers and every one says to cover sharp objects, like the gutter ends, with pool noodles, tennis balls, etc. Well what holds the noodles in place? I haven't tried yet but it seems to me that they would want to fall off, shift, or move as soon as you dragged the cover over them. I see you can buy tennis balls with a 10' strap between them, but I have a dozen or so pool noodles already. Free beats cheap.

Thanks
Jim M.

You need to be careful when you put cover on, but once on the cover holds them in place.

I just got done putting on my 5th wheel cover for winter. I used (I think 1/2" ) pipe foam insulation cut to size. Fit tight but wrap some duct tape around it. $3 for much more than i needed, but can use at home too.

X2.

That's what my neighbor does. I've helped him the last two years.

He just slides them on the gutter extensions and then puts the cover down over. He did have to get up under the cover on one corner (using a step ladder) to reposition one that moved a little but once the cover was on, it held them tightly in position. His are only slightly longer than the gutter extension. (maybe 1/4")

I cut an X in tennis balls. They don't move and won't fall off.

Last couple of years I've wrapped the gutter ends with painters tape. Doesn't leave a glue residue in the Spring like duct tape can. I almost neglected to cover the slide-out awning gutters this year but the brains of the outfit (DW) was on-site to remind me.

I cut a smile into the tennis balls. Squeeze it open and slide into place. No movement when cover put on.

Got 4 foam rubber baseballs at Dollar Store for 4 bucks. Cut an X into each one and jammed onto gutter like a clown nose. Held in place firmly, like hack522.

What he said. This is exactly what I do and it keeps the cover from tearing on the sharp gutter spouts, even in high winds. Be generous with the length of the foam peices so they cover the gutter spouts completely. A cheap and effective solution.

Dollar store is your friend, unless you have a need for really expensive balls!

We use tennis balls. Works much better than pool noodles.

i us pool noddles that have the small holes, cut them them in 3 or 4 inch pieces and slide them on, they fit tight,(havent tried the balls yet) dont forget the rear bumper, reason is my cover was on and i found the cover started to wear a hole in it so it got plastic coffee cans and cut the top off so it would fit on the bumper ends, also the roof top antenna has those sharp antenna ends and pool noddles over them also

Thanks to all that replied. Yes, it seems that once jammed on the gutters, the noodle seem firmly in place. I don't know if the gutter cut into the noodle, or the noodle crushed the gutter. We'll find out in a few months. Over all I used about 7 noodles. Most of those were to cover the two rails on the ladder.

Now that I have the cover on I wonder if it is fitting right. I measure my 2104s to be 19.5' long (back of spare tire to furthest point on box). So I order the ADCO tyvek cover for 18'-20' trailers (model 34840). The pictures show that the length seems fine, but the drop down the sides seems too short. I didn't even try to cover the spare tire because the cover barely reaches the bumper.

Does this look right? Our our MiniLites extra tall or sit high up? I sent ADCO a question but I figure I see what real people out there have noticed.

Thanks
Jim M.

I save a good section of an old discarded cover and cut a piece that fits over the propane tanks, jack and battery then simply tie it on with line.

If I remember my instruction sheet said to cross the straps on the front and the rear. Might want to check yours and not tight
