Portable ice maker

Anyone have any suggestions for a good dependable portable counter ice machine for a motorhome.

Igloo Compact Ice Maker - Assorted Colors - Sam's Club

This thing ROCKS! I only had to buy 2 bags of ice while we were out over the course of 7 trips, both due to ice melting while we were driving to our destinations. Once the cooler has ice in it, this thing keeps very well....20+ pounds per day in 80 plus degree weather, more if its cooler. On my last trip, it was only about 60 degrees outside, and I didn't even start putting ice in the cooler until I started making it....by the next day, the cooler was full. Plus, for $10, they warrantied it for 3 years. One of my best purchases ever!

(2016) - 21 in 7 trips
(2017) - 12 in 3 and going seasonal for at least the rest of the year!

I have the same one, works well. When it's hot out I try to feed it cold water and it make ice faster. Even at room temp it's pretty fast.

We bought one from Kohl's called a Newair. It is very fast and makes 3 sizes of ice. We have had it for about 2 years with no issues. They have many colors to match if you like.

Igloo from Sam's less than $90. On second year without problems.

Had to replace one that quit working during a trip this year...I concur with others' recommendation on the Igloo from Sam's. Makes ice like a champ and is smaller & lighter than most. Just hope it it holds up. Great machine for the $$, so far.

Does anyone know if they make portable one that can be hooked to an outside water source and store more ice in the reservoir?

If you look closely at them, they are all the same except for the name on the front.

I also have the Igloo from Sam's. 3 years..no problem! Important to always pull the plug to drain! Never empty by turning upside down! I also run vinegar water through it periodically since I do not use bottled water.

We have the Dometic HZB-15S. We have been using it for over 4 yrs and has been trouble free. We take it with us in in our Coach and use it at home when needed. Was $199 which is a little pricey but would buy another one as it has worked so well for us. Good luck.

Thread a little dated. But info still good. I'm also in the market for one of these, and came across this site. Might help in making a decision.

My moms igloo is on its 3rd year and ours is at 18 months. Best $95 I have ever spent at Sam's.

I want to find one that you don't need a water reservoir. I would like one that hooks up to an outside water source through a hose bib and can hold 3-5 lbs of ice.

I don't THINK they make a self filling portable unit. Could be wrong. You could buy a small freezer and add an ice maker kit to it. Limitation to that is finding a kit small enough to go in freezer....

OR

Put one of these in the reservoir for the water.
