RE: Looking for Advice on RV Roadside Assistance

I may be posting this in the wrong forum, but I will ask the question anyways.

Does anyone have any knowledge, experience, or preference pertaining to the different RV Roadside Assistance Programs aside from their price?
I am referring to Good Sam Club, FMCA (Family Motor Coach Association), AAA Premier RV (American Automobile Association) and I am sure there are others out there.

I currently have AAA but not premier for RV. I own a travel trailer and have not looked into AAA yet. Currently I am comparing Good Sam to FMCA but all this reading and varying details has me confused.

Can anyone help and let me know why I would pick one over the other, again excluding price? (Good Sam at $109/year & FMCA at $69/year)

I was viewing this comparison chart and wondering how accurate it was.
https://www.fmca.com/fmca-rv-roadside-assistance (3/4 way down page)

Thanks in advance

We got a year of Coach-Net when we purchased a new 5th wheel and we re-upped it back in June. We have never used it, but we did have Good Sam for about 10 years before that and used them several times and were pleased with their service.

Coach-Net had a few extra coverages from Good Sam and were about the same price. That's why we kept it.

We also have tow assist on our auto insurance and it does also cover our RV.

Coach-Net is what we have but we will probably take out Good Sam on our trip to Alaska next year. Having two roadside assistance may be a bonus. I have used Coach-Net for tire changing

I suspect that which insurance to get is dependent on location. Here, in SoCal, AAA reigns supreme. We had trouble in Yosemite NP a few years back. The only service accepted was AAA. YMWV

We just used coach net to change out a tire 2 weeks ago. I asked the tech how much they billed for something like this on the side of a road? (We were at safe campground) He said $450. Not having something is not an option if you are going the distance. Thanks for the thread. Will be interested to know others thoughts.

I have Route 66 RV Network roadside plan. Haven't had the need to use it. Price wise maybe a bit more.

I have AAA RV Premium, which (knock on wood) I have not used yet for the RV. I have though used them for running out of gas and tire changes for different vehicles over the years plus it saves us money at attractions

Check with your insurance com;any. I am with GEICO and it is $10 every six months. My motorhome broke down on the freeway between Phoenix and Tucson, called GEICO, and they took care of everything. Arranged for a big rig wrecker and shop to be towed to. NO cost to me.

I appreciate the various replies. I will check out Coach-Net.
Never heard of them and have no knowledge of their offerings.

As stated and verified - AAA is not offered to residences of Massachusetts even if camping in another state. Did not inquire as to Northeast.

Good Sam seems to have similar service as FMCA but at almost double the price ($109 vs $69).

Will check out other sites with similar question for General Community Discussion and Google "roadside assistance site:forestriverforums.com"

Thank you all. Have a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season.

We have had Coach-Net, Good Sam, and now FMCA. FMCA is the most economical and has served us better than the others. Good luck.

I have had AAA since '05. Have used several times for towing. Put my truck up on flat bed, and had hitch for fiver behind. Couple tire changes where it was hazardous on highway. Check costs for individual states. Original sign up was with TX, moving to AZ, price was half again more. Changed back to TX, more than glad to have me.

My roadside assistance is provided by my auto insurance under USAA.

If the trailer is connected to my vehicle any roadside assistance and vehicle/trailer repair as a result of anything that happens while I am towing is covered by that insurance.

Cost, $35 every 6 months.

They just paid out over $3000 for axle, spring, tires and body damage on my 5er after we lost a wheel due to Lippert's poorly designed hubs. (outer bearing race spun in the hub due to Lippert using 3500 lo rated outer bearings on a 5500 lb axles).

Basically they all use the same vendors in an area. Good Sams does a good job at follow up and has trailer vendors that AAA won’t have.

We HAD GSRA for many years....needed them twice, and they failed us miserably BOTH times....will never have them again. The second time we needed them, the operator didn't even know what a 5th wheel was, could NOT understand why we needed help.....she called back after about 90 minutes, found a mobile repair guy that was 2 hours away....we had already had a guy working on our trailer for about an hour.....we were in Wilmington, NC....not some rural area.

We now have coach-net....which came with our new trailer.....we will probably renew when the year expires. May check into AAA.

I had the opportunity to use my Good Sam Platinum for TECHNICAL support this past summer and I was impressed with their escalation process which ended up with a mobile RV tech in Texas with experience in the subject I needed calling me to diagnose the issue and advise me on next steps. I really liked that I could get my questions answered by someone who knew what they were talking about on a Sunday.

I have had Allstate Motor Club for the last 20 years. They have been excellent. Covers my motorhome and any vehicle that I or my wife is in. Introductory membership is either $89 or $99 for the year.
