Re thinking the Snow Bird idea

We have said we don't need to be "snow birds" even tho we live in Southwest MI. in the lake effect region. The DW and I have said we can deal with the snow and cold, IN THE PAST. After the last week plus of sub 15- to -10 degree temp and having to spend 2-1/2 hours a day plowing and shoveling I am rethinking the whole idea. Went out again this morning to PLOW AND SHOVEL , I looked back at our poor TT and thought it must be saying to me " I've been good to you, not let you down but look what you are doing to me." Soooooo we may have a change of heart.

Take it south and leave it there. Come Oct 1st lock up the house and go the trailer IN Florida south of Tampa. Come May, get out if the heat and go home. That's what we do. Home is in Florida. The trailer is in the Berkshires. We are Sunbirds.

Come on down. A few good sites still available. One across from me. I'll smoke you some pulled pork if you will take me salmon fishing at Benton Harbor in August! LOL Nah, I'll make you some anyway.

Whow, I like your cover much better than mine. The cantilever overhang looks great and eliminates post obstacles I normally see. I am however curious how close is the garage overhang to the top of your 5th wheel roof. Are those special order trusses or standard off the shelf ones? Even though I won't be able to build one at my current location this adds to my wish list.

As far as moving south for the winter I agree that negative temps are making us think as well. We're also getting the itch to hook up in October and seeing Minnesota in our rear view for a few months.

Snow Birds...

I lived in Michigan for the first 27 years of my life. In 1982 my company moved our operations to San Diego, CA. After 1 year in San Diego we really missed our family and my company sent me back to Michigan for a 2 week project...
My wife said to see if I could get transferred back to Michigan. I said I would try. The trip was in January... THANK GOD...
After 2 days of <10F and ice covered car and roads I called my wife and told her that we are never moving back to Michigan.

Now I have a saying....
"It took me 27 years to figure out that winters are optional."

Now 35 years later I am retired and we travel back to Michigan in the Summer and Fall, but mostly the Fall.
Now I look at the country weather maps and I am so happy not to live where there is winter.
