But what if you're not pre-wired?

2011 Surveyor 235RKS here that isn't pre-wired for a camera and really want to put one on, Are there options for this and is it a tough install?

Many opt for the cheaper and better Haloview camera system. They make a Furrion adapter.

It's not easy. You have to use a power source, such as the running lights, to power the camera.
I used the the rear center running light, to power my TT's rear observation camera.

Any Pics? Did you replace that running light or wire it to the camera sitting below or above it?

Replaced it, I didn't want to drill new holes. A friend made a mounting plate for me.Click image for larger version

Check out Haloview. You can find all kinds of installation videos and reviews on youtube. I'll be ordering their 1080p WiFi system in the spring when I dig my Camper out of the snow.

I had a Furion. It was OK but small monitor was a down side. When mine stopped receiving the display (2.5 years). I opted for a Haloview. Much improved display and it has recording capability. If you use that feature, get at least a mid speed memory chip. The cheap slow ones will cause drop outs when it is time to start new files and more so if you have it overwrite and the chip fills.
I used the Haloview view adapter which works well. Biggest issue with the install is the wire. The adapter cable ends up being long. I peeled off the rubber backer that came on the trailer for the Furion. With some vasoline, I was able to persuade the connector thru the small hole in the backer. That allowed me to push all the wire into the wall of the trailer. Proper re-caulk with butyl tape on the back of the backer and all is well.
I was concerned about Haloviews transmit distance rating of 30 feet. However, having used it on our last 2.5K mile trip without the extender antenna, it worked fine. My trailer is 30' from trailer bumper and then over the back of my F-150 to the monitor which I hang on my rear-view mirror.

My second system is a HaloView and I am well pleased with it. Much better than the first brand I had whose name I don’t remember.

Check out Halo view. I love ours. they sell an adapter to fit the prewired mount. Did not use it. I mounted mine on the top of the mount. We do not have the external antenna and the signal will freeze momentarily but rarely. Nice big monitor with sound and proximity lines. Works great on our FR26RLHL. I think Furion is too expensive. Safe travels.

One more vote for Haloview. As mentioned they have an adapter for Furrion pre install. Easy to install and set up right on the furrion mount. Clear picture and very nice or see the traffic behind you.

Yes this is a very good/knowledgeable/friendly site. Like you I was interested in a rear-view camera, in particular a Haloview Sytem. As others mentioned, there is tons of installation videos but very little recorded video. So I finally bit the bullet and purchased the “Haloview 7'' 720P Wireless Range Dominator System RD7 MAX” from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Haloview-Wire.../dp/B08BNWZVXL. Performance wise, camera system has been rock steady. The field of view, i.e. depth of view for rear camera, trade off. Limited view of what's behind you vs directly what's behind you, rear bumper and spare tire. Side view camera, personally I'm even more disappointed. Cannot quite make out my trailer tires for backing up my camper and on the passenger side of camper the awning arms obstruct my view. Am I disappointed that I purchased the system, NO. I did not realize how great my truck mirrors work. Camera does add additional confidence driving down the road. But personally I didn't find it aiding me in backing=up my RV which is why I added/bought the Side view camera.

I invested in a Haloview system including two side mount cameras. The cameras have infra red vision for night, sound built in so you can hear sound, volume control, DVR recording onto a SD card (mine records a 64 hour loop on all three cameras. You can rig up to 4 cameras so #4 can be a dash cam. Cheaper than Furrion. Great customer service.

Here’s a post I made on another thread on this topic:

https://www.forestriverforums.com/fo...ml#post2395991

I didn’t want the large 7” monitor because I have a few other monitors on my dash and the 5” monitor works well for me.

Image Delay

What experience is everyone having with delay of image on display for your system (Furrion, Tadi Bros., Haloview, and other)?

I had a wireless backup camera on a previous truck, and the delay was about 1 second. That's not really that important until you're using it to back up close to something.

thanks

I've tested both the Furrion observation camera and two Haloview cameras. All had about a 1 second delay, maybe slightly more. Haloview told me the delay on their systems is due to having to process the 720p image and transmit it to the monitor. The Furrion is lower resolution so it should be faster but its not much, if any, faster.

I wouldn't be concerned about it when backing up. If I'm close to an object I always get out and look for myself in addition to having my wife as a spotter.

Read about this camera in Trailer Life. Ordered one for DH. Mounted real quick under clearance light. Paired well with smartphone.

I paid less for a system similar to the Haloview system and it came with a 7 inch monitor, instead of one the size of a smartphone.
