Refrigerator drawers

Might be a stupid question.......but gonna ask anyway.
In our refrigerator, at the bottom, where the drawers are, there's little styro foam tabs that the drawers slide over when you open them.
They squeak worse than nails on a chalk board. Are those really needed to hold the drawers in? Any other fixes for them if they are truly needed?
Thanks for your input.

Tired of wearing cotton in my ears just to open my frige drawers.

Is it possible the intent of the styrofoam maybe for shipping purposes?
If you were to take the drawers all the way out is the styrofoam loose or is it glued?
If it loose I'd probaly just remove it.

You can remove the styro foam. It is used only for shipping.
