Reserving campsites.

When reserving campsites do you all give the total length from bumper to tongue or just the size of the living space??! I guess this only pertains to travel trailers.

Bumper to bumper.

Unless I need to be 40' and then I go with 40' instead of 42'. But I don't recommend it- it can get tricky!

We are 36.6'. Where we are wanting to book close to our friends but the area they are in can only be 34'. I don't think that it would be a problem. I'm not afraid of tight spaces. I drive semi for a living and I have been I real tight spots. Less then 2" on each side.

I'm 35ft 8in long, I say 36 and if I book in someplace like Fishing Bridge in Yellowstone I book the 40ft sites. That's what I usually do is book 40ft sites

Hitch to bumper. Though I should probably include the rack on the back too.

When making a Res. you are asked the length of the RV (not, 'plus' truck length).

It depends on the campsite layout. If there's nothing behind you, I'd probably say I was 34'. If you're in back to back spots where you can't encroach behind you, then that's different.

I would plan on parking the truck in an overflow lot and not at the site.

Our box is 26 ft, so I usually say we are 30 ft long, which includes the hitch. They figure site length based on trailer and truck length, so I include the hitch.

Not sure how you think they do that. I've never been asked the length of my truck, only my TT, and short bed vs long bed vs SUV vs Freightliner could make a difference.

Some parks are different. I know that Oregon State Parks....the length they give is for the pad. If your truck and trailer will not both fit on the pad......the the tow vehicle goes to the extra vehicle parking area.

As you can see from the responses here the answer to your question is
"it depends".
As a rule we include total ball to bumper. Mine is 29 something. I round up
to 30.
After I put that length in the search box at the campground reserve page I look at the results of available sites and try to pick sites that are longer
than that. Hopefully they will be long enough to fit truck and trailer even
if the truck has to be parked cross ways at the front of the site.

Good luck!
Happy Trails!!

Im 35' 7" bumper to ball. When asked, I say 36'. There have been cases where I exceeded the maximum advertised length but a call to the park ahead of time, they had larger sites that they were ok with me using despite being over length.

I'm 30' 8" and always use 30. Never had a problem.

I always round up. Our RV is a little over 33' so I usually go with 36 just to be safe.

Most of the COE's we stay at list the pad size and the drive length, so I know whether the RV and truck will fit. And since we usually have the boat in tow, I know if it'll fit on the site.

But if you have a hybrid with a back bunk, I figure I have to add the bed length on.

We never counted that extra length because it usually hung out over the log or concrete curb stop.

IMO...If that extra 2 or 3 feet is going to make a difference, you need to pick another site. I use total length.

Bumper to hitch.......................... if you book a site where we mostly go that has all pull through sites if you say you are shorter than you actually are you may be blocking a road and asked to move out......... .
