Sadly, many today have no sense of courtesy or respect for others as "IT'S ALL ABOUT ME" attitude.
Often seen in grocery stores where several gabbing as their carts totally block the aisle. I used to be polite and say 'excuse me' getting, sometimes, a dirty look. Lately have been saying in a loud voice "COMMING THRU" and that seems to have more impact.

Leave your park lights on they will come calling. I found that out by mistake. Now I know why some trucks have their park lights on.

The FMCSA rule states that cdl holder are exempt from maintaining logs or other documents if they are within 150 air miles of their starting location. No matter ELO's or paper in answer to anyone's question on logs.
And just remember this. Any thing you are wearing, using. eating. or riding in was brought to where ever by a truck and a driver.

I noticed right away that it doesn't matter how far away you park or how many spaces are available in a parking lot, inevitably someone parks right where it prevents you from moving until they leave (and they have to walk clear across the parking lot to get to the stores!). Now I ALWAYS pull in across several spaces at an angle, then turn my tv so it is facing out toward the travel lane, right up to the edge of the travel lane so I have a clear shot at getting out (unless someone parks in the travel lane blocking the front of my tow vehicle). I think instead of "defensive driving" I call it "defensive parking".

I will concede that the quality and professionalism of some semi drivers are not what they used to be. I attribute it to the lack of drivers and the push to get new drivers in the seat.
In the SW heat we travel very late at night sometimes and it is amazing how every ramp, rest area, and truck stop is packed with semis. Not enough room for everyone evidently.
But I have never seen any of them blocking access to a driving lane where it made me uncomfortable. If they did so, I'm sure their driving brethren or DOT would correct them. If the semis crowding all the rest areas can get in and out, so can you and your RV.
When I find myself getting annoyed with a semi I try to remember that they are working for a living and delivering products to keep store shelves stocked.
Sometimes it works

I find that truck drivers, like us farmers, don't get the respect we deserve. Everyone wants food and their "stuff" but get impatient with our farm equipment and truckers. And so I have much appreciation for truck drivers and try my best to be courteous, giving and forgiving. Little things like flashing headlights when they signal to come into my lane, yielding or moving over when they are trying to get on the highway, giving them plenty of turning room, etc.
The average car driver has no idea how hard it is for trucks to stop so they cut in front and slam on brakes. Average drivers have no idea about (nor care really) how much room to leave for a truck to turn. I almost feel that new drivers (and shoot existing for that matter), should be required to drive a truck simulator so they can better appreciate how their driving impacts truckers.

I think the overall issue is that there are those who behave like the highway's were built specifically for them. This isn't just truck drivers as there are those in every 'highway demographic" from teens with a brand new license in their pocket to the professionals like truck, bus, taxi, service industry highway users, and all those in-between who drive with a sense of entitledment.
Just ran across an interesting statistic. Annual highway deaths currently run around 40,000 per year. Now compare that with Homicides (all means, not just one "weapon") run around 25,000 per year.
Now which deaths get the most "Press" and "TV Time".
You'd think people would be more courteous and attentive to safe driving practices given that the highways are as dangerous as they are

Isn't a side part of it that every so many miles of interstate there needs to be a straight section with no bridges over it to be able to act as runways. This way we have emergency airports all over the country incase the established airports are compromised. (bombed)
OK this may be only a urban legend....or is it.

I also believe a good portion of the problems on our roads is lack of enforcement and true "teeth" to punish those that are idiot drivers. Yesterday on our way home from camping, two muscle cars (one Mustang and one Charger) were racing each other down I-95 weaving in and out and not an officer in sight. And if (big if) they get caught, what is the worst that happens? A fine? Insurance points? Loss of license? Now a days when insurance bills go up, people either lower their coverage or they just do without causing us with insurance to pay the price thru uninsured motorist. Loss of license.....they still drive. There are no teeth in the penalties.....wife who is an insurance agent sees it every single day.

Nope - not according to the US DOT: https://highways.dot.gov/public-road...%20emergencies.

"Punishable by fine" just means "legal for a price."

Which is a great argument for raising fines to a level that gets the offenders attention.
Raise by a factor of 10 and the $124 speeding ticket is no longer just the equivalent of dinner for two but now $1240 which would be a REAL attention-getter.

I kind of like the way that Finland does it. The problem with the current US system for fines is that it disproportionately affects the poor.
There was a time when that $124 "dinner for two" fine that you mention would have been a "we can't pay the power bill this month" fine. While that level of poverty went a long way in *our* house toward keeping us on the proverbial "straight and narrow", we definitely had friends who would have shrugged that same amount off as an inconvenience.

In Finland, speeding fines are linked to salary. The Finns run a “day fine” system that is calculated on the basis of an offender’s daily disposable income – generally their daily salary divided by two.
The more a driver is over the speed limit, the greater the number of day fines they will receive.
This has led to headline-grabbing fines when wealthy drivers have been caught driving very fast.
In 2002, Anssi Vanjoki, a former Nokia director, was ordered to pay a fine of 116,000 euros ($103,600) after being caught driving 75km/h in a 50km/h zone on his motorbike.
And in 2015, Finnish businessman Reima Kuisla was fined 54,000 euro ($62,000) for driving 22km/h over the 50km/h speed limit.

So am I reading this correct? I see it as; if I'm poor and don't have a job, I can break the law without consequence. Sounds like where we're headed here in America! Not sure I'm on Board.
