I live in Victoria Australia. Whilst we have travelled a lot and seen many places around the world, me and the missus have managed just two visits to the USA. The first time was 1986, when the billy lids were about 10 & 12 (they are both over 40 now) and the 2nd time was 2008, just the two of us. So while my rants give the appearance of me being a local or at least knowledgeable of the place, it is really old memories.

Not actually living there but having the luxury of being able to be selective about where and when we wanted to be and for how long, gave us the opportunity to see the best of the place and have some truly wonderful (as well as a couple of not-so-good) experiences.

I am a retired photographer so I was a pretty happy chappie. There are more places in the USA that offer great photography than we could ever hope to see, but we managed quite a few. Disney World was of course always on our list. On the first trip, for me, it was that and Epcot. On the 2nd it was just Disneyworld. Loved the place but got lost trying to get out of the park and back to our motel. Was annoyed we couldn't find Dunkin' Donuts in Orlando.

I dabble in astro-photography as a hobby. Just plop me in a open field on a clear night and I'm happy for hours.

We won't be there until the 15th, but I will snap a few and post them once I arrive.

I-4 from Daytona was under construction both ways when we drove thru at Christmas time and sure it still is, we did not really run into any issues but we did go thru at off time of the day. I would suggest pick a lane and just stay in it, I usually stay out of the right lane to avoid the ramps because they seem to have shorter merge areas when under construction.

Watch Construction

We were there in January. The main entrance road to Disney (magic Kingdom and Fort turn off) was undergoing a lot of road work. Lane redirects and narrowing. Might want to call WDW for updates on the construction.

Have fun at the fort. We will be there Saturday morning after I set up I'm going to post some pics. Drive safe sounds like you're a lot further than I am. I have a grueling two and a half hour drive.

And yes they did change the roads a lot on Disney property. But it's kind of nice they actually made an exit ramp for Fort Wilderness. Now you don't have to squeeze your camper or RV through the tight Magic Kingdom gate.

I budget 700 miles per day when planning long trips.
