We do about 400km or 250 miles for a long trip. We budget for that and time things to arrive when we should. For short stays or weekenders we might do a lot more but it always comes down to... Heavy packing done the night before, rise somewhere between 7-8am, breakfast, pack up the rest, chairs, outdoor mat, etc. leave between 8-9, arrive between 3-4. Any more than that and the DW will probably not be so dear.

That's the same route I take from just North of Syracuse, NY. My first stop is usually Roanoke, Va. Worst part of the trip for me is the Pennsylvania mountain fog. Used to go to Carlisle, PA on business and never got comfortable with it. Have a great trip. Winter weather is in its last gasp.

I got to say I am with Tim, if I want to go somewhere and only have so much time to do it, I do not mind driving 700 miles a day, I like to drive and I am sure many others do.

Us working class stiffs only have so much vacation time so we have to put in long driving days if we want to go anywhere.

But just in case you don't change your mind.....
13th or not I never plan on leaving home on ANY Friday. Doing so just guarantees that it will take me 4-5 hours to get the first 100 miles behind me.

Some traffic jams on i-5 through Seattle have been so bad on Fridays that Food Trucks caught in traffic have been known to open for business while stopped in the traffic lanes.

I'd rather start a trip in the middle of the night than during daylight on a Friday.

I will hit the road at 2pm and will have 300 miles behind me before stopping for the night.

It seems like I can't go anywhere without finding heavy traffic. To leave Delaware and go anywhere you got to go around, D.C., Baltimore, Philly, or Norfolk. So, I just leave around 5am and drive as much as I can. Usually, I can go at least 600 miles in a day and have been know to drive for much longer distances. I have twice driven over 20 hours, but, not a habit for me, all I need is someone to talk to. My worst time to drive is around 3-4 pm.

I used to just turn on Talk Radio, roll up the windows, and then shout at the radio.

I got a good start today on trip preparations. I cleaned snow off the roof, removed and stowed the cover, and installed the batteries. Last year when I removed the TPMS transmitters for the winter, I neglected to label which one went on which tire. I put one of them on one of my truck tires and drove around the block and watched the receiver to see which sensor reponded. I don't know a better way to sort them out.

I could get from my house in Massachusetts to Anchorage in 7 days if I make no stops except for fuel, meals, potty and sleeping.
