Well, when we were exploring financing options I spoke to our credit union and to them our travel trailer was NOT an RV and was therefore not eligible for discounted loan rates. An RV to them was something with a motor that you drive. I disagreed with them but their underwriters had the final say. I call our "thing" a Camper and an RV.

I call it a RV or Trailer. Never have called a hard sided trailer a Camper. That is a pop up trailer with canvas top.

I think in general, the terms RV, camper and trailer are used inter-changeably depending on who you talk to. It sounds like your insurance company is getting stuck on the "vehicle" part of RV by defining it as something with wheels and a motor.

Although interestingly enough, there's an entire ad campaign called go RVing. So RV has now become a verb.

For me, I usually switch between camper and trailer. My wife and I will usually talk about going out to our camper when we aren't there. But if we are already there and I want something inside, I'll tell my kids to go inside the trailer.

I call my Toyhauler "Homie" and I camp with it.

No offense, but I really don't care what anybody else calls it, or thinks about it. However, if said "anybody else" were willing to make the monthly payment, I might consider their opinion on names.

I call my DW SUV a truck... DS and GS call it a van(it isn't) and she goes off on them. She 43 and doesn't want to be a van mom.

It's all relative. If you went from a Prius to a Rav4, you think you have a truck. If you go from an F350 to an Excursion, your now driving a car.

Car plates on my Excursion doesn't bother me a bit, Excursions are classified in NC as station wagons so I don't need to buy weighted plates like the truck owners do.

As philosophers will tell you, a key step to critical thinking is how you define things.

The answer to this is easy, an RV=TT=5th=MH. MH is defined as money hole.

You really want to be confused? My DW's Grand Caravan (probably the most recognized minivan all around) is classified as "truck" according to her registration.

Back to the OP's question, in my neighbourhood, at least according to the bylaw that doesn't let me keep my trailer at home, an RV seems to be anything recreational and transportable. Motorhomes, trailers, campers, boats, snowmobiles, ATVs, hovercraft, canoes, kayaks, stilts, cross-country skies, snow shoes, toboggans, sleds, jetpacks, single passenger prop engine biplanes, helicopters, UFOs, etc... cannot be parked in the front of the house under that one bylaw.

I am so glad that I live in the country, my RV is parked right outside of my garage and plugged into its 30 AMP outlet.
