Misleading Title
In reading the article it wasn't an RV fire but involved Mobile Homes.
People in Mobile Home parks do a lot more dangerous things than in an RV park like working on vehicles, welding, etc. Mobile home parks also tend to have more "Plywood Sheds" than RV Parks that store all kinds of flammable and/or combustible products.
Last but not least, many mobile homes in parks around the country are old. Old enough that they are wired with Aluminum wiring among other deficiencies. RV's tend to be newer with very few of the ones built in the 60's and 70's still on the road.
As for being crammed in tightly in an RV park? One of the reasons I prefer to Boondock. Don't get me wrong, I like people. I just don't care to be stuck in an RV site where my neighbor's slide prevents me from extending my awning fully (and my slide does likewise to my other neighbor) or the Coach next door is always parking their toad across the back of my site because their rig is as long as the pad.
