RV Life Trip Planner

I'm new to using RV Life Trip Planner and so far I really like it. However, I've encountered an issue I can't seem to satisfactorily resolve. I'm planning a trip from New England to South Carolina along the eastern shore and Trip Planner insists on taking me across the George Washington Bridge in NY. I'd much prefer to take the Tappan Zee bridge. When I drag the route across Tappan Zee the rest of the route gets messed up. Is there any way I can simply tell the ap to avoid a specific bridge?

Many thanks!

Try adding stops Nyak, NY and Sleepy Hollow, NY to your trip and force the route.

Makes sense. I'll see how that works without a specific address. Thanks.

It's interesting that when I do that, it indeed takes me across the Tappan Zee then turns me around and takes me back over the bridge to where I started and continues the route over the George Washington.

You may have accidentally added a waypoint when you tried to drag the route. it will show as small white dot on the map and will show as a waypoint in your trip listing on the left side of the screen. It can be hard to see unless you are looking carefully because it does not get it’s own entry in the list of stops in the route, it will just be 1 word hidden in the list. you can delete it if you find it then try again. It took me a few tries to get the hang of doing the drag route trick.

Palisades Interstate Parkway bans RVs (not sure about the Garden State Parkway)...that might be screwing up the routing

I think you are right! It seems to be restricted. My Garmin RV won't take the Tappan Zee either.

Thanks!

I'd try starting a new route. Might be a pain but see if that changes anything. We just went from Cape cod to SEPA and took the tapanzee. I can route just fine with the RV trip wizard.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. The trick was that I was trying to re-route south too soon and was hitting restricted roads/highways. I simply had to keep going west to I-287 until I can loop back into I-95 around Newark, NJ.

Bingo! That's exactly what I do to get to south on the Jersey Turnpike from New England. Anything that says "parkway" in NY, NJ is usually trouble for RV routing. RV Trip Wizard is a super app...you can't even do that on a lot of the simple trip planners. Good luck.

Add in Mawah NJ which will put you on 287 South then you can decide if you want to go all the way down to the Jersey Turnpike or go 78 west to 33 South (2 lane mostly but scenic) to 295 south to Delaware to eastern shore around Baltimore &DC

Having tried EVERY mapping program for my Harley, I know this frustration.

I review my route 3 or 4 times and zoom in as far as possible when I add a waypoint by dragging a route. Inevitably, I find 3 or 4 waypoint that I did not add. The issue is, if you remove that waypoint (at least on the programs I have used) it takes the route back to the way it wants you to go.

I have learned to go back to old school and study a map and know my route.

With a Harley, getting lost is not always bad, pulling a trailer though......Whole different story.

With a motorcycle you are never lost as long as you still have gas.

Assuming you're talking about Trip Wizard. Have you tried the Drag Route feature ?

Between Drag Route and adding POI's you should be able to route yourself as you wish.

It's often easier, at least for me, to break trip legs into separate routes.

I think the secret to using Trip Wizard (or whatever its called) is to use a lot of way points and then zooming into the map to verify that is what you want. You have to look at your route very closely or it end up biting you.

The only way to use the GW bridge is at 3AM and even then I wouldn't call traffic light.
