I don't even wear gloves anymore, too much of a pain in the neck. Easier to get things all done, then clean up. It's funny watching guys with big gloves looking like Ed Norton from the Honeymooners coming out of sewer! I DO gotta start bringing old shoes to wear only at dump station, to slip off before getting back in my truck.

I agree completely! I’ve done the same thing as you just did quite a number of times but the last time was about 30 years ago. It was’t a particularly pleasant task even then but it had to be done so we just did it. With all respect I just don’t expect to see this sort of thing (and I don’t really want to see it) at a provincial/state park dump station.

Cheers

But of course, they also need to have a sign that this a dump station, not a clean out station where you can rinse repeatably and hook up your black flush when there is a line behind you
X2.
We've been to several dump stations that are just that, a cement trough that you pull near to, then prop the drain cap open with the catch mechanism, open the sewer cap on your R/V and let 'er rip.

There was signage at the several places that explained just this process, including to simply rinse the trough when you are done.

Folks were in and gone in minutes, no lines, no flushing tank(s) no fuss.

I've found that some people simply don't want any help, and others get highly offended that anyone would try to help. I'll be more than willing to help if asked, but otherwise stay out of peoples' business. I have to admit I've gotten irritated more than once with a "Mr. Helper" personality when trying to get set up in a new site, but I simply say "Thanks, I've got it."

I'm not sure why you would add this snarky comment to answer my questions. From it I might draw the conclusion that you are a "confrontational camper" or better yet a "know it all".

Wasn't saying to be "Mr Helper". But clearly everyone responding to this forum has an opinion about what someone else is doing at the dump station. What are you afraid of by talking to people. If someone was taking a dump on your front step, would you say something then? How about a simple comment of "would you like an explanation of how this is supposed to work?" If they say no, then move along.

Been doing this RV thing for over 10 years now. I saw others wearing disposable glove and thought it was necessary after about 6 months I quit with the gloves and like you once I finish I wash my hands real good with a sanitizer.

My feeling is I don't put on gloves or a hazmat suit when I am "filling" the black tank. Don't really see the need to when emptying the black tank.

Golly gee whiz, Nick, I simply answered your questions and you seem to have taken personal offense. The OP posted about "them," not you or me, because we're obviously perfect. Also, I think Apex was just being sarcastic about the phone number thing, but he can speak for himself. I'm shutting myself down on this crappy subject.

LOL... Yep, you have to wonder how people suit up to wipe their own butts!

How about the folks at the dump station wearing sandals?

You know what they say, there's one in every crowd!

The problem with that is when you're on the throne you're dealing with your own pathogens. At the dump station you're dealing with a lot of "unknown pathogens".

Well, I still wear gloves (convenient since I hobby with cars and always have a box or two around). But the 2nd pair of shoes is an idea! We're always the late guys. By the time we hit the dump station its at least a half hour past check out. This one morning it rained so we waited it out before packing up. By the time we hit the dump station the sun was out and we chuckled over how all those other guys were standing in the rain while dumping. Yes, me and my sneakers had to step in puddles while I performed the magic. When I got back in my truck to leave it smelled really bad. About a mile up the road I pulled over, jumped out, and threw my sneakers in the trunk. Drove home barefoot.

Hahaha, I thought I was the only 'late guy'! No matter how hard I try, it seems to take me forever to pack up. I was always getting screamed at in boot camp too for being last guy to get dressed. And I keep forgetting to pack a crappy pair of lawn mowing sneakers to throw on at dump station. Next time...

I watched the same thing one day. He just pulled up and dumped in the vicinity of the dump station. Thank goodness we were not camping (just driving thru the campground). I really wanted to get out of my truck and let him have it.

We were at a full hookup park and I watched a guy dump his tanks and then disconnect the sewer hose and throw it on the picnic table then take his fresh water hose and shove it in the sewer hose and rinse it out while still on the picnic table and then ( I think I might puke) he disconnected water hose from the water supply and blew in the end that was in the sewer hose

"So apparently, make sure you're making that solution fresh each time you need it. Apparently while bleach itself has a long shelf-life, bleach + water mixed in a container has an incredibly short shelf-life."

From my marine biology days, bleach mixed with water will last less than an hour in sunlight.

Some people just simply do not think about their actions. There is a lot of good advice out here. Everyone should be required to take a camping 101 class before going camping. I do the gloves and the shoes but now I will add a spray bottle of antibacterial cleaner to my list.
Happy camping to all

If you understand the bell curve of intelligence, you know that 1/2 the people out there are below average. Luckily, all the folks on this forum are on the right side of the curve. I'm lucky, I'm almost always able to dump in the manhole in front of my house. No waiting, and my shoes don't get wet. My plan is to never touch anything that the sewage actually touches. Works most of the time.

I worked in the local sewage treatment plant in college, so I sort of got used to the smell.

It is unfortunate that people like this occupy the same planet, let alone share the same campsite.
