RV Proflex

I learned a lesson about using clear RV Proflex caulking. I was placing the RV Proflex caulking on some external vertical seams. I placed the blue tape along the seam. Then put on the Proflex. I started at the top and went down to bottom. I tried to smooth it by using soap on finger. It did not smooth very well because it was already drying. Then tried to remove the blue tape. The Proflex was very stringy. I tried to smooth some more but would not smooth. This vertical seam looks looks like a very bad application. The other places that I caulked, I did not use the blue tape. I went just a couple of feet, smoothed out before it would start to dry and then applied another short length, smoothed out as I went. These other places looked very good. Proflex dried very quickly and will not smooth out once started to dry. Since the one vertical seam looks so bad, should I take off and do over again? If so, what should I use to remove the poor caulking job? It appears to seal good but just looks bad.

That kinda sounds like a silicone base caulk. Try to spritz it with rubbing alcohol then run you finer down. I would do a test first.

Proflex is not silicone based and as the OP stated when it dries fast it doesn't smooth out very well. Do as you are doing, small sections and smooth out. The temperature of the siding can also affect how it smooths out as well. If you want to remove it then some denatured alcohol and a set of these work well https://t.harborfreight.com/4-piece-...set-95832.html.

I used it for the first time this weekend and my job looks terrible. My only hope is it does keep the water out for a long time and I will just go with function over form.

It must be the ambient air temp or surface temp. I haven't had that problem when using it.

It was about 90 degrees here in South Texas when trying to apply. I tried to stay out from sun. This probably made the Proflex dry faster than normal.
