RV Storage Cost

I knew it would happen with all the covid RV buyers and demand for storage spaces but didn't think it would happen this fast. In March the storage facility I use in central Texas raised their rate for a covered space from $100 a month to $150. Got a letter today saying their rate will go up to $180 a month in July. I fully expect the rate to be over $200 a month by summers end! Supply and demand I guess and they know folks won't be able to find another cheaper space to store their RV.

Are your storage lots raising their rates also?

Yes, and I looked everywhere the prices have generally gone up by 30 to 70 bucks a month from last summer when I looked. I'm in the Mid-Atlantic region. I was lucky to find a spot 20 minutes from the house and "reasonable".

This was one of the things I was looking at before purchasing. There were no places that had any spaces up to 30' in length. Their rates were in the upper $200s through mid $300 range when I checked. And these were outdoor spots.

Found a local place that had 20' spaces so had to alter my RV choices and the rest was history.

Lucky me that's one thing that has not gone up where I store mine. I Pay $140 a month (outside in a field with dirt/gravel) 5 miles from my home in major metropolitan area, no price hikes yet fingers/toes crossed. I am not the norm where mine is stored. guy just added few more acreage and he has plenty of open spots. (for now) storage fees at indoor or covered have risen up by 50%.

We are very fortunate, unbelievably so. We have a 12'x35'x12' indoor storage facility that only costs us $450 per year. It's gated, concrete floor, individual garage doors,, lighted and with electricity. Rates haven't changed in over 10 years. It is about an hour and 15 minutes from our house, but since I'm retired it doesn't bother me taking a little longer before a trip.Click image for larger version

Thankfully, I own 5 acres in the country and parking is technically free. The worst part of it is...our property is very wooded and when I get ready to leave, it's a 200' back-up down a narrow tree-lined driveway to get to the cul-de-sac before we can head out. We've got it down to about 8 or 9 minutes backing up before we're ready to be on the road again!

This is where a seasonal site can come in handy. Sometimes it is cheaper to keep your RV at a seasonal site than it is to pay for storage.
