Good idea Herk, will seriously consider this option or keeping a can of wasp/hornet spray by the camper door.

Could, Don't, Have.

I sprayed 2 dogs in my career

peeper spray worked

wasp spray didn't, I gracefully RAN AWAY

I've never met any RV'er who has needed anything against a 2 legged problem???

The wasp spray needs contact with the eyes.
Pepper spray will work on skin or hide.

You're not just lucky. You haven't needed a firearm for two reasons. 1, you don't hunt, and 2, others, who do have firearms, have provided you with a sense of security. As a 32 year veteran peace officer, I'd say your feeling of not needing one means law enforcement in your area is doing a good job. Just a thought, (and a pat on my back.) Lol.
Your "thought" is incorrect I simply dont feel the need to carry a gun around to survive everyday life here in NY or at a local campground for that matter. Im certainly not depending on the guy next to me either. You need a gun to feel safe great I dont and sleep every bit as well as you do at night.

To even suggest the fact that those without firearms should feel a sense of security because of those that have firearms is absurd. It that is that fact that scares the hell out me. How many accidental deaths and injuries are there because of misuse and abuse of firearms.

We often compare how much is one life worth. I mentioned in an earlier post about a visiting Kalamazoo, Michigan police officer in Calgary, Alberta. This gentlemen was approached while walking thru a public park and asked if he had been to the stampede yet (a big event in Calgary). He felt threatened and uncomfortable because he was not allowed to carry his firearm in Canada to defend himself. This is what scares the hell out me, what would he have done if he had his weapon? Drawn it to scare them, accidentally fire it?

Those that feel the need to defend themselves with a firearm while RVing have that right. Please be responsible.

Ah, pit bulls (and some other breeds), when enraged, feel no pain and will continue the fight until dead. Hard wired into the breed, unfortunately.

They can be loving and well mannered when trained and make great protectors when controlled by their owners. Not so much when loose.

Here is where the mandatory comment regarding personal attacks gets inserted.

Just because you do not believe in something does NOT make another person's belief "absurd."

Since our friends to the north have VERY different views on this topic, and they make up about half of our membership, you can see how this topic can "go south" quickly.

Last warning before thread closure.

Like I posted earlier, the same goes for people. I have seen tasers and spray fail incapacitate people. I hope I don't sound disrespectful to you Herk because I am not apologies if you took it that way.

I believe in taking care of myself. I fix my own stuff on my RV and TV, I carry spare parts, I carry a fire extinguisher, I carry a spare tire, and aspirin. All just in case I need it. I also carry a gun for the same reason. I am sure there a lot of people out there can say that they never needed a spare tire in their life but still would not be without one. I am not worried, I am not paranoid, and feel safe. I am prepared to take care of myself and my family. There is no 100% safe place to live, travel, or camp. "Carry On"

No more replies are needed. I just wanted to take a poll and see who does and who doesn't. Looks like about 50/50. Thanks to all, and be safe. Now lets get back to those last few camping trips and winterizing.

Too true. They are almost always "on something" that disconnects pain centers from what is left of their brain. That is why police departments have protocols for "Taser Fails to Drop Perpetrator" - the next step is always deadly force.

Thanks Bob.

I agree it was almost time. (Maybe past time from a few PMs I got.)
Peace brothers and sisters...
